Lol, yep ARNAZ BATTLE, he wasn't the best player, probably below average, but I loved him at Notre Dame, was super pumped when we drafted him, he did ok, but him as a returner, not sure what the staff at the time was thinking, I can't remember if it was Erickson or Nolan as HC. I know he was drafted in 2003, but I can't remember the coach, so long ago, I forget so much stuff it's not even funny lol.

For a 6th rounder pick, Arnaz far exceeded expectations. I know there was plenty to forget from this era, but these were definitely the dark days.

I remember meeting my Brother at the bar to watch the games and telling each other we'd be happy to win 8 games...

He was drafted under Erickson and Donahue. Didn't play a lot until Nolan. That said, the roster was in shambles during that stretch (2004 to ~2008). Most of our starters would be backups on any other team. Remember JTO winning the QB job when Martz was the OC?

Anyhow, I didn't mean to dredge up those horrible memories, except to say I was also a really big fan of Arnaz. Esp in those dark days, he was sort of a bright spot. I think he would have been pretty good on a competent team.

To be fair to Martz, this was the year Alex was returning from the botched shoulder surgery, so he was struggling in camp (the wire was literally sawing his bone in his arm, it turned out). Alex ended up going no IR for the season just a couple weeks into the season. So in retrospect it wasn't surprising that Martz didn't choose Alex; what was surprising is that JTO also beat out Shaun Hill.

I coulda swore AB told me years ago his handle stood for Antonio Bryant. Me thinks AB pulling a little revisionist history after our boy Bryant flamed out hard.

Running it back for the 3rd time with a rookie QB, isn't exactly a recipe for reaching the ultimate goal...it's the definition of insanity.

The FO has built the deepest roster in football. But they are missing a few top end key playmakers at key positions if they ever want to get over the hump.

They may just run it back again and see how Trey does this year and then retool the roster next year when the cap is really expected to increase.

BTW: I absolutely love the timeline layout.

Thanks NC, as for the rookie QB, I mean the Chiefs did it with Mahomes, he helped them get deep in the playoffs, so you never know, Trey has a much stronger arm than Jimmy does, and he can actually run the ball, plus all the weapons around him, and a solid defense.

Oh I'm fully expecting at minimum, the playoffs again. This team is too deep and talented and it's not a QB-centric offense. Totally agree with you. In fact, I actually think we could have a Superbowl roster in year 1 for Trey by simply adding a few key pieces. Truly.

Given the available talent of the team and the play callers on both sides of the ball, for me 10 wins is the floor. Gonna be tough sledding for Trey, but he's walking into the golden situation as a young QB. I expect some games where we explode offensively (35+) and some headscratchers. Hopefully by the final stretch he's settled in a ready for a playoff run. And yes, if we add some pieces Super Bowl is a realistic expectation in 2023. Hell, if the ball bounced our way, it could've happened this year. We can actually say we are 3-1 against the teams in the Super Bowl.

We will once Jimmy's traded, somewhere around $12M net after factoring that we'll be about $8M over the $208.2M cap, this is mostly due to the fact that Dre & Omenihu's base salaries went up from $965K to $2.54M, & Deebo's went up to $3.936M for making the pro bowl, I forget exactly what it was, but he pretty much got over $1.8M raise, & Omenihu/Dre got $1.575M raise, so that's $4.95M lost. But they'll end up with cap room, they'll likely either release Ebukam or get him to take a pay cut down to minimum, add in NLTBEs, saves $4.865M.

AB, is there any way to get rid of Ford's money, or are we going to be eating dead money whatever we do? Seems unlikely he'll ever play again, but if he keeps rehabbing and passing physicals at the beginning of the season, he'll keep getting injured and taking a roster post.
