Yea that cost us many years of hell.

The Langham deal was only cleveland doing us a solid because Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark were there as executives and knew the cap crap we were stuck in because they were a huge reason we were there.

It was hard because the team rarely did team-friendly deals to sweeten the pot to get guys to take money. Like Jeff Garcia - it was an incentive laden deal that burdened the next season with tons of cap. I believe they were put under, "not likely to be earned" incentives so they didn't count against the current cap year and if he hit those benchmarks they were rolled on to the next year. His cap figure in 2003 or 4 was going to be around 14 million and they had to cut him for a 10 mil dead money hit just to save 4 million. It was crazy.

If the 49ers saved $5.85M, I'd have them under the 2021 cap by $7,041,329.

They need cap room for in season moves, I don't see them signing or trading for anyone.

I was looking at OTC and Spotrac last night and it looks like they can. Only about 1mil dead cap hit. Ford on the other hand is like 14mil dead cap hit lol. Move on from Jimmy and Samson that's about 34 million in savings there and puts them around 45mil cap space. Maybe restructure a few more guys to free up some more.
