As much as I love Armstead, I'd rather take the best pass rusher available at 32 than pay him 18M per year.

We could take the best edge rusher AND re-sign AA. Trust Paraag.

I sure wish AB81rules was still here to provide his figuring out on the cap

Someone made a fake twitter mocking AB when he asked for some gofund me money to help him out with his dog. No biggie but he was bullied mostly by this guy:

https://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/profile/PrisonOfGlass/

Boo that man.

How do you bully a dude that brought so much substance to this site and was cool with everyone? Worse, how do you allow the bullies to stay?
Pretty messed up no matter the situation. You have to be pretty miserable to bully a guy that didn't do anything to you.

Hope AB is good, it's not cool that he was done like that.

Exactly. I hope AB still visits these forums and sees how much we appreciate him.

Yeah AB was a very valuable asset to this site however most of us know that a certain poster has to go. Just ridiculous

Who?

I don't know if this has been asked but how much cap space could be made if the team got rid of the following players via trade/cut/waive/release?

Goodwin, Pettis, Thomas, Witherspoon, McKinnon

Goodwin - $1.2M cap / $3.6M savings if cut
Pettis - $1.3M cap / $378K savings
Thomas - $8.9M cap / $0 savings
Witherspoon - $243K cap / $2.1M savings
McKinnon - $4M cap/ $4.5M savings

In that case the team NEEDS TO DO IT. Those guys are not worth holding on to.

If the team extends Buckner and or Kittle, depending on how they structure their contracts it can actually create more salary cap space this season. I think Goodwin and McKinnon are as good as gone. I think we'll see a couple more restructures as well.

Not sure about that fully. Kittle is scheduled to make $2.2M for 2020. Extending him probably means he's getting around $12M APY. Buckner is scheduled to make $14.3M for 2020 and projects to make $16M. You can probably extend the years and spread that total $ out over the life of the contract but it's probably not going to lower it this year b/c of bonuses.

I just saw a tweet sent out a week or so ago detailing how it's possible. I'm not a cap guy. I get my cap info from Spotrac but I can usually atleast see when someone knows what their talking about. This guy seemed to know his business.

I wonder if it was our own AB. I don't see it on his site. But likely. There's lots of ways of working it too...could convert more to bonuses, because it's an extension, push out to start hitting harder in 2021+. But yeah, if you do happen to see it again, let me know. I'm no expert myself. I believe you, obviously.

PS: I'll ask him.

Does anyone know what we would really save, if any, by cutting ST? I see his contract is guaranteed but there is a base and roster bonus for this year and Spotrac shows $4.3 mill in savings for 2020 if we cut him.

If we really save $4.3 he needs to be cut like yesterday

For Solomon Thomas? $0 cap savings for cutting him. If we can trade him, AB believes there's a chance we could recoup $4M but who would want him AND his $8M contract?

I'm staying positive.. what if we sign AA and ST has a breakout season
he has to feel that he's playing for his life this season

I say we trade our 1st round pick and sol. Thomas for a second round pick and maybe we can get a 3rd/4th round pick out of it

Thomas $8.9 million..........
Your thread says that is what we have in 11/2019. So what do we have now?

2/16/20? Some guys restructured. Also did the cap go up for next year? Is there in increase giving us more room?
Remember that if a team trades for sol Thomas they are only paying him 4.5 mil and we're liable for the rest. So I don't see his salary getting him in the way of being traded. Bottom line is we save 4 mil and a roster spot, if we're lucky we can get a 5th round pick. Silly boy is gone don't worry

There has to be a team with porous run defense, similar to us in 2016 that would trade a pick for Thomas.

We aren't going to trade him. He will play out next season and we will see how he gets on.

If we package sol. Thomas with our first round pick it won't be so tough to move him
Thomas at 8.9 cap hit is highway robbery. What a complete bust. Players I would rather have that cap hit taken AFTER Solly in the 1st round, no QBs included.

18 players. That's unbelievable.

Leonard Fornette
Corey Davis
Jamaal Adams
Mike Williams
Run CMC
Malik Hooker
Marshawn Lattimore
Derek Barnett
Marlon Humphrey
Adore Jackson
Jonathan Allen
Evan Engram
Jabrill Peppers
Takkarist McKinley
Tredavious White
Tj watt
Ryan Ramczyk
John Ross

You could question players like Corey Davis and John Ross, however I would argue that Shanahan-Jimmy G would put these two in better situations to succeed unlike where they currently are. Cincy is dead offensively and Corey Davis has been stuck with Mariota and a struggling Titans passing game.

Jackson, Allen, Engram, Peppers, McKinley and Hooker may not be spectacular players but at least they have been somewhat productive.

We basically have to cross our fingers and pray that he has a miracle breakout year like AA. And if not, we don't bring him back.
