For me when you're spending up on a WR I have certain expectations.

if you're claim to fame is blocking and running fast. That's not something that you need to spend a top 33 pick on. Come training camp I want to hear about him running good routes and separating vs NFL QBs.

Yet you were more than happy drafting a DE at 11 whose claim was stopping the run.

Stopping the run is a high end need for a DE. Epically for this team….It gets him on the field asap. The plan was always to push him inside on passing downs. Not be a pure edge. Williams was regarded as a top 15 pick and is 2 yrs younger than DS.

Run blocking as a WR shouldn't be the reason you go top 33. Also I'm not saying DS won't improve, I don't hate him as a player I see the upside. There was better players available and yes it was a reach…their track record doing that isn't good.

You think run blocking was why they drafted him at 33? You don't think it was the size and speed and production? I thought you were mister measurables. Seriously though, I hope you were being facetious with that.

Absolutely

It was def a plus for him to be a good run blocker, no doubt about that. That's a big reason why guys end up in Kyle's dog house - the blocking. Same with RBs - they can't pass pro.

but it wasnt THE reason the team drafted him. It's multiple things that made them like him, not just one. Just a big plus.he also checks the box for 4.3 speed that translates to the field. He also has great hands.

there isn't anything he's bad at. Some things he's badass at, and some he needs to improve

Stribling's run blocking was absolutely a major factor in KS wanting him.

I can't remember who it was (JohnnyDel maybe?) but they did film review of our games and showed how a big run gain was blocked up by the OL but the TE/WR blew their job and ruined it over and over (as an aside...TE Farrell is a dumpster fire and needs to go ASAP).

This was true even against SEA.

So ya...I 100% believe KS believes the OL is fine and improving blocking from the skill positions is what will fix the offense

With that view I absolutely see why they jumped for Stribling...none of the other WR can contribute that same level of blocking to open up the run game

Yeah, Kyle's big plays are designed where 11 players do their part. I know people hate Aiyuk now but he was excellent at run blocking.

Hopefully our two young TEs improve a lot after their first year here. I'm optimistic cause it's been said that Kyle asks a TON from his TEs. I believe they said that out of QB - he asks the next most from his TE. I can't remember where I heard that.

i hope this guy hits the ground running in camp. Would be nice for him to be an instant positive

The one thing he can do day 1 is stretch the field which is super underrated. It will clear up a lot of space underneath. It also helps he has great hands so he is an actual threat too
check out Strib on this wham block from the wing.... a TE or FB usually does this kickout but he has the physical and athletic traits as a blocker to do this... this is why he plays this year, and while he earns faith with KS doing this he can start perfecting his skills as a route runner, I believe he already has the skills to separate at the top of the stem or off the line in press, but route running in the NFL is at another level the at Ole Miss

That said, the more I look at Stribling, the more I get it. Tall, big, fast, good hands, and excellent blocker. I think we have good wr development that can fix his release and clean up his route running. He is better than Deebo at that so I am confident he will actually contribute this season instead of being in the doghouse.

Greg Cosell or mrbusinessman499, who is correct?

I know who most likely is incorrect.

there's a rep where he's tasked with sift blocking Rueben Bain. Of course, it doesn't end well, but the fact that he was put in the spot and was game says a lot about him as a person.

edit got it. Imagine being a WR and having this assignment. Crazy!

Was moving up boards, wasn't gonna be there in R3. Like myself, fans just looking at mock drafts and media boards that don't tell thew whole story. Pick is definitely growing on me.

On those *ouch* plays if Stribiling can buy Purdy an extra 1 or 2 seconds on those play fake pass plays, Purdy might just hit Mike Evans or Ricky Pearsall on a deep route. Hope hope.

Wish they'd ask Trent Balke
I wonder if we might use him like Deebo in sweeps

`I think we will use him on those and have easy short completions to him to get the ball in his hands. He is the best YAC guy here since prime Deebo.
Kyle talks about the Black and Stribling picks on Rich Eisen's show.

Looks like the TE missed the assignment
