Which if true has the team on a 16-18 hr flight getting back home sometime Monday afternoon PT in California. It depends on what time that Sunday the game actually starts CA time. But the true f**king over scenario is the fact week 2 game for them is scheduled as if they played this game in the states. I could be wrong as far as what time they're saying the game is starting continental US, but if that's accurate the Niners are getting absolutely f**ked from week 1 going into week 2. What seems to make more sense to me is the game is really starting on that Sunday afternoon Melbourne time which would actually make the game start Ca time the previous Saturday evening (ex: GT Sep 13 - 1pm AT, actually starts Sep 12 - 6pm PT) but if the game start is really Sunday afternoon, the 13th US time they are definitely f**ked over. Unless they're indeed scheduling this game the weekend of Labor Day, Goodel and the NFL execs should be criminally charged for physical and mental abuse to their own players.
I heard somewhere that they would play it in place of the last preseason game 2 weeks beforehand, so the teams would get a full 2 weeks recovery before their week 2 game. That would make the most sense. Like how MLB teams who open the season in Japan will start in like mid March and then go 10+ days before the next series back home.

Well, the full week 1 slate of games (at least the past decade or so) have always started about 2 weeks after the last preseason slate of games are played. So for example, the season opener Thursday night game with Seattle I believe will fall on September 10. So really to be fair to both teams the Australia game should be scheduled on September 6 even though it comes before the real season opener. Seems pretty simple to me, schedule wise.

OK, so now the scheduling of this game will be much more equitable to both teams and way more palpable since it will now occur on either September 9 or 10th giving them adequate recovery and preparation time for their week 2 games presumably on 20 September

I mean… I'll take it but I don't understand how this really works. The game will pretty much have to be played in the middle of a Thursday Australia time, right? Idk if the NFL is going to want a half-empty stadium for their first-ever Australia game… but again I would much prefer this game be out of the way mid-week instead of just one week before Week 2.

To be Played 9th or 10th September likely means Thursday night USA time (late afternoon SF time) and mid/late morning Friday locally.
The stadium is practically sold out already with a waiting list of over 100,000. Even if it is played at 3am (which it is won't be) the stadium will be full.
Probably better for the players if game is one day earlier but the Thursday night opener makes sense for TV ratings/advertising etc.

Just for the record, the league is really concerned and determined to keep improving player health and safety. Oh wait, they're completely full of s**t.

Only if it benefits the NFL, not the players.

Haha half empty stadium? They could sell the stadium out 5 times over. People are going to fly from all over Aus and NZ to go and Melbourne is a sports mad city.

Unfortunately this would've been true if we still had the great Wishnowsky on the team. You'll have to break the news to ur krapstralian friends that Mitch has moved on the Bills, and has made Josh Allen expendable.
This trip will do no favors for team health. Take it from those of us who've made the journey many times. Flight will beat up ur body and jet lag can take couple weeks to recover from, each way. Stupid idea!

I LOVE the fact that this game will be played early enough for rest and recovery time for both teams. And I LOVE that our fans on that side of the world get to see the 49ers and I hope the stadium is filled with 49er fans as much as possible. Otherwise we will be essentially losing another home game at SoFi. Good thing is the league has taken in consideration travel time there and back so it could be a win win for the league and fans over there

So, there is an article in the news feed about how Rams' safety Quentin Lake says he has more respect for the Seahawks than the Niner's and goes on to explain that it's because he "knows guys" on the Hawks, like Cooper Kupp, and that their team just plays hard. On the other hand, he says he just hates the Niners. Wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that Kyle has mostly kicked their ass for the last ten years.

Reportedly 147,000 on the waiting list to get tickets.

5>2 and that's why every team in our division considers us their main rival and their fans. It's chip envy, fan envy and they're envious of the 49er brand name recognition globally and historically. To them I say go f*** yourselves!
