I really hope Morris works out and will be our DC for the foreseeable future, It is absolutely frustrating seeing us go through DCs year in and year out stunting development and it's looking like our defense has no identity it's even worse that we have had 2 guys that were amazing but left to be HCs. Thank god we have Warner as the field general

He's proven not to be a very good head coach (Tampa Bay, Atlanta). Hopefully he won't be poached for a while. I'm hoping no NFL owner wants to give that 3rd chance to Raheem to get a shot at the round 1, pick 1 of the 2028 draft.

He's been pretty mediocre to bad, but never the worst. Doubt he'll get a shot for awhile. He'll need some top 5 finishes IMO to get that call.

Which he's never had, so we're safe.

Huh? Morris almost had the Arizona and Raiders jobs before becoming the DC for the 49ers. Aren't we all hoping he makes the 9ers defense a monster again? Because if he does he'll be a head coach again no doubt. If he doesn't he'll stick around but 9er fans would be screaming for his head.

The NFL loves recycling head coaches, look at the Browns coach from last year. Not too many NFL caliber coaches out there to choose from.

I don't think he was a real priority for either the raiders or Cardinals. Its tough to overcome two failed head coaching attempts. He meets the Rooney Rule for one thing regarding HC interviews and he is a good DC, and so they (I think) were trying to get him more as their DC vs him being a real viable head coaching candidate.

It's never easy to know why a HC fails. Sometimes it's a lot of injuries. Maybe just unlucky with draft picks. However it certainly can be that some guys aren't cut out to be #1. They may be a great possition coach or coordinator but it doesn't mean they can be the big dog.

Him getting fired in ATL was a little surprising. He had that team doing some good things. Penix just hadn't worked out yet.

I was reading that the team restructured its entire front office and the new guys and reports they made, were a major factor in his removal.

i hope he has the defense balling. It may get him a new coaching gig. Selfishly, I hope he balls and stays.

Heh, it's real easy, Mr. Master of the Catch. If you, as a HC, can't find a genuine franchise level QB, you will be eventually fired after about a year or two.

That's why I think ShanaLynch is still employed. ---> Brock Purdy.
Just give us 2 solid years if he becomes a HC after that at least we get a 3rd round comp through the Rooney rule
Interesting, you don't see a player react like this too often over a brand new DC they barely know. Raheem must have made a hell of a first impression, and I mean it tracks with his reputation. He's always been known as a player's coach and a big brother to his players.

Yeah that's sorta the rub. If he does make the defense a monster and gets a HC gig, we start all over at DC but at least get a comp pick. If he turns in a Wilks like performance I doubt they keep him any longer than they kept that guy.

Agree 💯 %

I've been pounding the table every year since ShanaLynch got here for a more solid defensive scheme. I think Raheem has a much more solid scheme (or at least fits more better) the current pass happy NFL league. The Wide 9 is so predictable and so schematically defective on the backside, its a wonder we lead in the 4th Qtr in both Superbowls.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's schematically defective on the backside. I just think you need better talent than what the 9ers have had at Safety. With Morris, I feel like the defense will be good at getting to the QB and takeaways. But will be worn down and on the field longer if they struggle to stop the run like it has in the past. Which is why Morris has never had a top 5 defense.

We'll see what happens this season, but I don't think it will be the same Raheem Morris defense we have seen in the past.

The addition of Greenlaw and Osa with young promising talent I'm actually very optimistic that our run defense is going to very good. I really hope Morris can work some magic in the secondary cause I think we're a top 5 defense if our DBs start getting takeaways

I think that's why they brought in Matt Eberflus, he's a run defense specialist. He's had some good run defenses in his past. That's a solid defensive coaching staff in my opinion, going into 2026. You have a defensive line specialist in Kocureck, a linebacker specialist in Eberflus, and defensive back specialist (who is running the defensive show) in Raheem. Kyle's always had problems with defensive guys like Mike Macdonald - who's similar to Raheem in that both employ confusing multiple front defenses and multi-coverage schemes on the back end.

I call it a defective defensive scheme when you *intentionally weaken* the backside to bolster the frontside defense. In the pass happy NFL league, a good pass defense is composed of a good pass rush and a good defensive backfield. Any weaknesses on defense (via talent or scheme) is going to be exploited by a good offensive coach (Like Fat Andy).
