What a great quarterback. Unfortunate to run into Staubach at his prime. Dude was an MVP - really underrated.

I only knew him as a broadcaster but loved learning about those pre Walsh/Montana 49ers. RIP to one of the 49er great players and QBs.

I watched him lose to the Cowboys at Candlestick through no fault of his own. Got his autograph in the players parking lot. Before the days of huge salary he drove a Town Country Squire station wagon with his family to the game.

If I'm not mistaken, when he retired, he was the third all-time in passing yards.

Those guys get overshadowed by the 80s and 90s teams, but some of our all-time greats are from those eras.

Oh no. This is awful. He started my football obsession being on the cover of SI, "Look out for the 49ers"
