neither mcdonald nor ben johnson have won anything yet, but with mcdonald I see the plan and I also see good drafts that get players who fit the team.
mcdonald is a lot more impressive to me than ben johnson, to build this plug-and-play defense that has no elite blue chip talent besides maybe Witherspoon (ok Emannawori was a very boom or bust player) but just suffocates you is crazy. the only defense in the league thats close is Houston, but Will Anderson was a top 3 pick for a reason plus Hunter is an established elite pass rusher.

its easier to have a qb who has superstar traits bail you out like ben johnson does

sorry, sort of offtopic but wanted to address the previous post

When healthy, this roster is pretty solid. The injuries, particularly with Bosa and Mykel, makes it hard to evaluate what is needed and the priority. It all rolls from there. Pressure on the opposing QB makes an entire secondary look a lot better.

Also, quality WRs make the entire OL look better. Kyle's offense was built around having a true man-beater like Aiyuk. They added another of his type but he has not been healthy long enough to evaluate him fully.

I rank needs:
pass rush
WR
BPA from there on

Quality wrs want make this line look better not against the Rams or Seahawks they physically can't win. Needs for me are Interior O Line , OT , WR , Bosa and Williams coming back will help the pass rush and the you DT"S look to me like players that we can win with.
I think our 24 & 25 drafts were very solid. A lot of decent to good starters with a lot of potential. That said Idk if any of them are stars. Stout maybe?

Stout is the only starter from this draft. West and Collins are great rotating pieces
Stout and CJ

Need to find a pass rusher opposite Bosa. Also, Quality depth on the OL/DL that wont drop off when subbing in. The DL depth we had a few years ago was unmatched.
FO/coaching staff : NO MOVES
Kyle is a great coach (not a genius as some say) but his evaluation of players, his playcalling stubborness are his Achilles. Those aren't gonna change so we must cope with it if we don't wanna lose our sanaty with him. He is here to stay and we are better of it. I don't wanna see Jed firing a great coach to then sign a Tomsula look alike.
Lynch has to deal with him so he is handcuffed in a way with satisfying his HC with puzzling draft choices and signings but also nailing it with All-Pros.
Overall their work can't be undermined by this blowout of a loss.
Even if i think we missed our best shot in 2023 and think our chances to win a SB with Kyle is low, there is no reason to make a change.
Losing our DC and STC would be very damaging but we dont control that. Fingers crossed.

Offense : G, C, WR2
our interior OL wont do the trick. Let's hope Puni just had is sophomore year and will improve. Kyle's glowing about Brendel so you know we're doomed at center. Burford is backup material. And for God's sake thanks Trent to keep playing (at a high level).
Let JJ go or pay him WR3 money, Pearsall when healthy is our WR1 so i want another year to see if he's injury prone or not. I have lost Faith in kyle to develop our young WR's so we may have to sign one free agent here.
We're good in our QB and RB room.
We're probably good for one more year with our TE's depending on George health.

Defense : edge, DT, LB, CB, safety
the DL play has a tendency to plumet when Bosa is out. So having an another edge seems appropriate.
Our DT are young and the veterans are average or below. I would sign a DT free agent. Lynch still doesn't get it after his mistakes with DeFo, Armstead and DJ.
Besides All-Pro Fred our LB's are suspect but still young. I would sign a LB free agent to bring more competition.
If we upgrade the front 7 i think we could be OK in the backfield but signing a veteran safety and drafting another CB might help

Special Teams : Punter
we gotta sign Piñeiro, Moore is OK or could be replace by one of our young WR, long snapper is good enough.
Moorstead is aging and was shaky in the end.

So there's a LOT of work to do in the offseason if we wanna be competitive with Rams and Hawks and have a shot at our division next year.
I think there's too much to be done with the salary cap space and number of draft picks so my guess right now is we finish 2nd or 3rd.
But the next step is knowing if we keep our DC or with whom we replace him. I would guess Bradley and that would not be great imho.

Oh btw… FIRE ALL THAT STRENGTHENING STAFF !

OL, WR, OL, OL
We sure as s**t need another top tier RB who can allow us to manage CMC differently. There is zero chance he makes back to back seasons under this kinda workload.

We look in massive trouble if we don't draft or trade well.

Kittle is in twilight years, as is CMC so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a drop off or all the physicality catch up with both.

Trade wise haven't got many that stand out- just the one: I would seek whatever it takes to get Brock Bowers from Vegas as I think he might be the future TE star. Don't think it'll be possible of course but that's the kinda guy I'm looking for.

Other than that guess we'll have to see what th draft brings.
Can we poach Adam Peters back from the commanders for the draft?😂😂😂

Good post. To add to needs, unfortunately, I would add TE as there's a chance Kittle misses a chunk of the season.

It's why I dont really post here any more, its overly negative and emotional.

Every position outside purdy basically could be upgraded fairly easily. Even Trent was out there half assing plays while purdy was still scrambling, blocking no one while the play was still live, this game.

Maybe we should start to analyze who is "good enough" to make a SB RUN

QB+ Skill Players:
QB1 Purdy, QB2 Jones -> draft a QB each year, but 1 and 2 are set
RB1: McCaffrey
FB: Juice
TE: Kittle TE2: Tonges
WR: Nothing at all

We need to find at least 2 Quality WR and a TE 2/3 with the perspective to replace Kittle. Get a UDFA RB

OLine:
LT: Williams
LG: -
C: -
RG: Puni
RT: -

To me, we need to find 3 OLiners, a LT who plays RT or LG until Trent rides into the sunset.

DL:
Bosa, Huff, Williams

Get a 3T and a PassRusher. Collins, Williams, West are good Backups at this point, need to Replace Elliott and Company.

LB:
Warner, Winters, Kendricks

Feel we add a late Draft Pick here, but if Warner/Winters stay healthy this is one of the better units.

DB:
CB: Lenoir, Stout
S: Mustapha
Get a CB and at least a true FS.
