The multiple OT signings are basically to offset that the 49ers didn't draft any tackles or even sign any as UDFAs.

Players can opt to retire at any time without the team knowing. And it is a legit concern when a team does sign three OT's.

Completely agree. He could have showed up to camp to let them know what he's thinking and knows we're not doing anything this year.

The truth is no one knows what he's thinking or if this is even the reason why we're doing this. They might also try to move one of the guys to Guard.

I think given the state of our roster and 2 guys being released with failed physicals it makes sense. Now if we traded for someone who actually is a proven starter I'd understand the concern.

We really only had Pleasants as a real option at swing tackle unless we moved Burford there. Humphries signing made sense. Adding these guys to battle it out for swing tackle makes sense.

Expecting them to replace Trent who is retiring while giving them one year deals each…doesn't.

Seriously. Some people just want people being miserable.

If it happens it happens and we deal with it. We had Willis retire and then found out his replacement was retiring a week later.

Draft is over. There is no reason for the team to hide if Trent is planning on retiring so these moves are simply vet depth and considering everyone was complaining about us not addressing OT enough then what's the issue? We definitely needed a swing OT.

Also…when Joe Staley retired we traded for Trent Williams and then drafted McKivitz. We didn't wait til the late 7th round to draft our first OLman who was only going to play G and then signed depth OTs.

Made me remember Chris Borland's sudden retirement :)

Honestly with all of these offensive tackle signings; 3 in a week, is starting to make me worry about Trent retiring a la Joe Staley

First people complaining about depth at tackle. Now we sign a few and now worry about Trent retiring lol.

Just being honest How often do you see a team signing 3 offensive tackles in a week?

I mean these two signings are barely playable. Trent has already been in the facilities for voluntary workouts .

And Trent was still a top LT last year and LOVES to play.
Dillard sucks, but hey, sub 4.47 shuttle. Makes you wonder why they didn't target athletes like Brown or Hollins as UDFA or even 7th round picks (or at least we dont think they did)

Dillard does suck, but his play on the field was still better than NPF ... and they went after him for his athleticism too. Once again it all comes down to coaching and numbers. We'll see these guys get run through the ringer and the bottom few will get run out the door and new ones will be brought in. Until one really steps up it's just churn.

Man they must have really hated the tackles in this draft…

I think it's clear we were targeting O linemen in the draft and they didn't fall to them and instead of reaching for a guy they went this route.

Which honestly was the right move. Horrible draft for OL

I'll take a guy with 5 years in the league ( even a backup ) before some rookie that isn't very good. If he lasted 5 years he's at least got some playing time which puts him ahead of 90% of the rookie O linemen in this year's draft.

Not hard to argue that he only lasted 5 years because of how high he was drafted. 5 years and this is his 4th team.

He'll get a chance, but he may not make the 53 at all.

It's worth the chance. If he dosn't make it it's not like wasting a 2nd round pick on a reach. You can never tell when a guy changes teams. Sometimes he just ends up in a better situation in a system that fits his skills better.

Not expecting but it is a concern. But if anything, I think DJ Humphries could step right in if Trent went down. But with that said, I think immediately after Trent retired, the 9ers would trade for an LT. Like they did when Joe Staley retired.

Dillard was raw coming out or Washington state. Never had to deal with true pass sets or really run block a ton. He had legit movement skills though.

I'm pretty sure he's dealt with a ton of injuries since coming into the league…Broken forearm, torn bicep, concussions etc etc.

worth bringing in. Not counting on him making it through TC either.

Yep. It's not uncommon for players to change location and get better or to get worse. Let's hope this one pays off for him and the team.

There was talk about the Bills jumping in front of us in 2 and 4 to draft Dlinemen. I'm happy with who we got.
