Can Colby play center ? When all the OLinemen are healthy that's our weak spot.

Let's all hold our breath, but Brendel has just stacked the best two games of his career back-to-back and is now ranked in the top 5 centers in the league. Note his high rating in the assessment of 49er players in the article on the front page.

How can he get such a high rating this week when he allowed 4 pressures?
I'm referring to Brendel.

In their Premium program, they cite how they value various data. I haven't bought that package for a couple of years now but I do recall that pressures had the least amount of negative impact on the PP rating. For example, and I don't know if this is true, but if a pass is completed despite a pressure, it does not have a much of an impact as if the pass is incomplete.

The professionals use PFF on the regular, will disagree with you. Note the ratings on the front page. In checking just now, Brendel is actually ranked #2, just behind Linderbaum of Baltimore.

Thanks for the explanation.

He settled the line play out there and made it look solid. If he keeps it up no reason to give Barch back the starting gig

I thought he was getting much better push than bartch was too. I'd have to rewatch the film and all that but it looked like an improvement having him in at LG. I'd rather start the rookie and have bartch as our backup.

The entire line was awful. Pretty hard to grade one when they were all terrible :)
Hopefully he can continue to do a good job since he'll have to fill in for Bartch for several games it looks like.

scoops out the 1tech with ease.

I agree. It wasn't just push, either. He did a really good job at keeping his blocks contained laterally and keeping a lane open. Also, his footwork looked really efficient to me in real time. That bodes well for a rookie that hasn't had the opportunity to bulk up to proper NFL strength. With a proper NFL off season under his belt next year, he could be a real monster.

But... it's a long season and (and despite their sacks against the Cardinals) we don't really know how good the Saint's D-line is. Time will tell, but I'm pretty damned optimistic right now.

Edit: I'm puzzled by his PFF grade. It's one of those deals where the eye test and the PFF grade don't seem to be logging the same reality.
