I posted this in Collins thread, but I'll say this in here as well.
There are many players who excel in one on ones that dont necessarily translate to the real game. Usually a lot of shorter/stouter guys, on both side of the line.
I get the excitement and am excited as well, just kind of a reminder to curb it a little bit as to not be disappointed later. Jason Poe also did well in one on ones IIRC as an olineman, and hes out of the league right now completely.
Fair point, every year you hear of a player/players killing it in camp or even in preseason but actual games are a whole other beast. I'm liking what I'm seeing from west though, looks like he has some good hand work not just big and stout
Camp performance is just one step up from ther combine. I always try to keep in mond that they're going up against our players so performance is a 2 way street. Good on one side and bad on the other. Reminds me of those spring inter squad games that colleges have. The next day the local papers are raving about how good the offense looked while ignoring how bad the defense looked.
SOME of that can be which players they are going at too. When CJ has dominant reps against Puni it means more than when he handles Moss.
There is also something that says a rookie is going to go harder than a vet who has no or limited competition.
In reality the fans never really see enough to know how good a player is doing from camp other than when they are or are not cut.
We have WAY too much coverage of camp these days. Back in the day I'd go to camp when it was wide open and see a beat reporter maybe 1 day out of 5 :)
