Much rather suit up Nick Martin than suit up Jiyair Brown or Luke Gifford.

He's kind of our special teams ace. Because he can run fast and tackle really well. This is a grow and learn year for him. Shany doesn't always like rookies. Like Winters he will take a jump next year. I think his future is good. We could use him this year on special teams coverage because obviously it's terrible. Speed and a tackling machine is just what our coverage needs.

Good God if he's the ace on ST I don't want him anywhere near the field on D. The ST unit is amazingly awful.

He's mostly not been active at all. But I didn't check for sure the recent game. He should be active so he can help us is the point.

He was inactive again. If Gifford can't make plays on special teams then I'd say let Martin get out there. I know he's a bit out of control but maybe the speed will still help make some splash plays.

Nick Martin would definitely be better out there. He's speedy, quick and tackles pretty well in open space. Sometimes Shany is too stubborn with young players. He can help us on special teams while he learns. Maybe he can take a jump like Winters did from year 1 to year 2. He's a real good athlete as well. I think he can have a future with us.
This kid needs to be on the field
Why do you guys want him to be active? To be insurance for Dee if he goes down? Just wondering because Nick Martin ain't going to be playing Sam LB. Not sure if you guys have been paying attention to what Saleh is doing, but he's gone back to using a 5-man front at times with his SLB on the line of scrimmage. Nick Martin can't do that.

How do you know this?

Because he's 5-11, 220 pounds with short arms? Not to mention that he's never played on the line of scrimmage as a force player? Dude is a stack LB, not an LOS SLB.

Kid can play all over the field, plus he can't hurt on STs. Get him on the field, we have nothing to lose with him playing.

Again, you just posted a highlight video of him playing stack LB. Saleh is using his SAM LB on the line of scrimmage as a force player in a lot his base packages to stop the run. He's basically having his Sam LB play like a defensive end.

No offense, but suggesting Nick Martin to play Sam LB in this Saleh defense is dumb. It's like suggesting Fred Warner to play cornerback because he can cover as a linebacker. It's an entirely different role. The Sam LB has to take on tight ends at the point of attack and be the force player. Nick Martin probably won't be active unless there's an injury to one of the stack LBs(ie Fred, Dee, Bethune, Robinson).

I get that, I'm saying the kid can play/cover the whole field.
It's not a question of him or Dee Winters, both can get time on the field, plus Martin can contribute on STs.

You think he only gets a chance to play if someone gets hurt?

He has range, he's a good tackler, he's got great closing speed, get him on the field at some level.

I don't see how else he gets on the field. Clearly, Dee Winters is a better player right now and is playing at a high level. There's no reason to make a change there. Where else would you put him? He can't do what Saleh wants from his SLB. Dude is just too small for that role. Given his lack of special teams role, I don't think it's surprising that he's inactive, to be honest.

maybe the 2 rookies IDL start shutting down the run game, and Saleh goes back to 3 stack LBs in base. However, that seems extremely unlikely at their rate of development.

I agree with you for the most part, I'm saying find a way to get him on the field for a few plays, even if that's situational and let him play STs.

He's too valuable to not be active imo, unless he's hurt.

Hell yeah, that's what I'd like to see at least tried a few times. He definitely crashes the ball and takes good angles, sure as hell is a better tackler than a few current guys.
