The problem is with this thinking is that most of these guys they identify do not end up as starters.

That would go with every draft for every team, no matter how much they work to squeeze out value for every draft picks.

No team misses more than us. Not even close.

I think their idea is to draft the players they want when they can, even if a bit higher than expected, over the risk of losing them. If they become starters, no one care what late round they were drafted or they were a bit overdrafted.

Don't think it's right or wrong. Just a way of navigating the draft as a team.
Yes you are right, it's their modus operandi. It generally happens in the first three rounds. Again Lynch said it about Williams and Collins. We Zero in on a player and generally pick him early so as not to lose him. Its why we lead the league in reaches. It's why we will trade up to reach, but rarely trade back(and when we do it's only a spot or two).
Where I don't agree with you is that it is wrong. Our draft strategy should be more flexible to anticipate changes and players dropping.

If that were true, we'd never be a winning team.

No, because it's a combination of roster talent, fit, and coaching. Our coaching has been better than our drafting.

I'd happily take that bet. Teams miss like crazy.
Watched a little more of Martin and he started reminding of former Atlanta LB Deion Jones(6 ft, 220 lbs). Kyle was in ATL when Jones was at his best, so I wonder if he saw the similarities. If he's close to as good as Jones, fans will be happy because that dude has one of the best LBs for a few years. He was soooo fast.

Seing all the Linebackers go off the board so quickly in the 4th RD explains why they took Martin in the 3rd.

Maybe so but I would say no team hits as much as us either.

Yup, refutes argument about value/reach. Get your player and don't assume they'll be available at a later round.

Yeah, what a head-in-the-sand thing to say.

Even players that werent favorites got good second contracts in Banks and Moore.

They are better at drafting than fans give them credit for but when you start with Thomas and Kinlaw while swapping Brown for MM (even though MM was a better fit for Kyle)... fans arent gonna be to kind after that when late rounders and UDFAs are replacing day 2 picks, thats not even bringing up kickers.

I was literally gonna say this! Also I would toss Kwon Alexander into the mix as well as far as size and speed go. I think Martin is a better tackler than him.

Another under sized LBer who's been pretty damn good is Matt Milano, identical in size (Martin has longer arms). Same kind of mindset.

I've warmed up to the pick. Along with Collins.

McG wasn't a failure either. We couldn't afford to keep him (because we were signing other dudes we drafted to massive deals lol). McG is probably a top 15 starting RT in the league right now.
