Hoping thats the plan as well. He put on 10 pounds before the 2024 season. Not sure if Texas prompted that wanting him to fill that NT Tvondre Sweat role or what, but while it did help his anchor, he was not moving as well. The 2023 tape has a much better get off. He was 332 at the combine. I'd say 320 for an initial goal. And maybe we our excited about the mass this year needing to stop the run. But if we get a better rotation around him and really want him to be a 3T and work on the pass rusher, id say even 310.

Run stopping just isn't a prized commodity in the league compared to pass rushing ability. So you'd think that you could get great value when looking for run stopping players. Just wish this team would be more opportunistic.

We have pass rushers with Nick, Matos and possibly Williams. Its not top notch but not bad. What good is a pass rush when teams can run it right up the gut like they have the past two seasons. Its definitely not as "sexy" but its probably our #1 problem and these two are some of the best run defenders
That's true that Stopping the run, doesn't seem's to carry the same weight as Pass Rushing, When it comes to assigning the value of Defensive Tackles In this past, draft for example: The first Dt pick #5 Mason Graham had a 100% Run Defensive % Grd. and a 91% Pass Grd for a Total Overall Rating of: 91% , Compared to #13 Kenneth Grant's Run Defensive % Grd of 90 (Same as Graham) but Grant's Passing Grd was 81% for a Total Overall Rating of 88%

M. Graham has a 11.6% better Passing Grd. than K.Grant and got picked 7 picks ahead in the first. For comparison's sake.

Now let's compare T.J. Sanders : (Who Buffalo traded up 1 spot in front of SF in the 2nd (Btw was this a coincidence that Buffalo felt they had to pull this trade off one spot ahead of us ,Right before we Drafted Alfred Collins just saying ?), Let's compare both: T.J and Collins in particular ,T.J has a Run Defensive % Grd of 85 and a Pass Grd of 87 for a Total Overall Rating of:87% ...Compared to Alfred Collins Run Defensive % Grd of 94 (Which is better than even #13 Kenneth Grant's Run Defensive % Grd of 90 ,and Better than T.J Sanders Run Defensive % Grd of 85 ... But when we compare Collins Passing Grd to Sanders Passing Grd ,Collins comes in with a Passing Grd % of 81 Compared to TJ'S 87% Grd. (For a Total Overall All Rating: of 86 for Collins) Does this indicate the difference between how Buffalos and how SF (grade or value) the Defensive Tackle position? Maybe or did SF valued Collins Run ability over TJ pass rush strength, "We don't know," b/c Sanders was not there at #43 but for some SF fans that wanted T.J Sanders as the pick in the 2nd Rd,Both Collins and Sanders will be linked together throughout both of their NFL Careers. It sounds like Collins was going to be the pick if both were there (But we don't know for sure).

Collins is not that far off in his Pass Rush ability hopefully (With K..Kocurek) help developing ,Collins Pass Rushing techniques, "I like the chances of Collins developing into a potential Pass Rusher that teams will have to respect (Collins), By adding extra help to centers and guards", But it will probably be till next season that Collins (after 2 off-season's worth of work) that we will probably see a noticeable difference in his Pass Rushing progression. "We might just see Collins development in his Pass Rush this year" But his run stopping is going to help SF right away !, With just enough of a Pass Rush that he already brings to the table ,He will be a problem for offenses this year and they will have to account for him with assigning extra help to guarding him, Which should help Bossa and M.Williams and helping keep SF Linebacker's cleaner than last year (This alone is an improvement already) !

Fun when your wife is a cornhusker and goes custom the day after the signing.

Crazy. I was literally just telling my buddy that Alfred Collins as a player stylistically could be Calais Campbell.

Crazy thing is he doesn't have his frame fully filled out. He could drop like 30 pounds of bad weight and still eventually play around 315.
