He upgrades our run defense a lot already. I just hope he is more than that for the #11 overall pick. His pass rush moves need to improve. He will work at it and hopefully get better.

This! Exactly how I feel. I said it pre draft. I said immediately after his pick. He's going to be good for us at what he's good at. So far he has been but you can find that waaay later than the 11th pick.

He honestly looks pretty good for what he does. Just not sure he is #11 overall pick worthy. Usually the guys who don't have natural pass rush moves or twitchy fast get off don't develop those. He's strong and powerful at run stopping and setting the edge. With length and brute strength. There is a use for that and on this team too. Just if you are talking top 15 pick you should be able to rush the passer. I didn't see it in College or the pros so far either. But obviously it's early. Hopefully he can learn some of that.

I can see his floor being Arik Armstead really good against the run and can add some pressure think that's worth #11. Looks like he's focusing on his assignment and executing it solidly. Didn't really flash but once/if it clicks and he knows his assignment like the back of his hand I can see him being a pro bowler

You argued we should not have drafted VD at six. You posted the shame GIF in every thread about it until you had to stop. You clamored for Michael Huff instead.

I dont recall having super strong feelings against other picks. I would say my arguments for the 1st 2 were correct.

The problem is when I make these statements a dozen people takes these comments and we go a dozen different directions then people remember other things instead of the original reasonings

So you think now is the time to try to pretend you're right about this one after week 1 when the guy missed all of preseason cuz of an injury?

Rashan Gary went 12th overall. I'm sure some of us remember a guy or two on here pushing him to be the next great DLman. Super high HS recruit, physical freak, the works.

He has never had 10+ sacks in the NFL but he's 100% a great player for the Packers. He had 2 sacks in 16 games as a rookie.

It's hard to compare guys cuz Mykel was getting over his injury so didn't test at the combine and didn't do the full amount of testing but he was timed at 4.79 40 and a 1.59 10 yard split which is pretty good for his size. He's got speed to his game as well, he just has to work on his pass rush plan to give him more ways to win and setup the OLmen he's going against.

It also may be that the 49ers are using his size and power to open things up for guys like Bosa, Huff, etc. Whatever helps the team win is best right now. He's got time to round out his game where we're using other guys to open things up for him.

I never said I was right. I just haven't changed my belief. My post was about not giving him kudos for foing nothing.

Then as usual, the conversation gets taking to a different topic.

So this is how I'm going to do this. IN MY OPINION Mykel Williams doesn't deserve kudos for the clip that was posted. He didn't free Bosa to be one on one. He didn't beat is man one on one.

Who wasn't drafted this year, last year, last decade, last century is irrelevant to my opinion on the clip of Dee Winters freeing up Mykel.
Are people really up in arms about a guy who just played his first nfl reps, after missing a ton of off season, and played really well as a whole?

he didn't do anything sexy but he did all the dirty stuff at a high level. He didn't miss his assignments and he did way better than all the crap we had last year. It's a very encouraging first game. ESPECIALLY SINCE HE LINED UP AT 5-6 POSITIONS!

Some fans perspective are odd. We don't even know what he was asked to do in the game plan, maybe Saleh wanted him to compress the pocket and set edges more than go all out for sacks? Maybe Saleh wanted him to play his assignment so the linebackers could run wild, like they did?

it's literally his first nfl game and he did a good job. Let's see how he looks by week 10. If you're hoping he gets 15 sacks, you'll be disappointed. I'm hoping he's a Justin smith type player - and we all know what he said.

"stats are for losers". Aka they don't tell you if someone's playing well or not. There are more variables to factor in.

Ya.....I don't see Williams doing whole lot this year in the pass rush department especially as a IDL. Just stop the run and hold the edge. Free up our linebackers and DBs on blitzes.

Nope just like everyone else just don't like when they draft meh guys. This guy was never a pass rusher in college and shocker he still ain't.

"Only 21" "need more reps" good luck with that.
Like the Trey situation it was just about anyone else but.... it has nothing to do with who we didn't take. Everything to do with the guy we did take.

You seriously asked me to give kudos to a guy that needed help getting free. What are we even doing here?

And you are who determines meh guys? lol go look at your track record with "your" guys

I am the guy who determines my opinions. Which is all I'm posting. We all have opinions on who our meh guys are.
LOL please man, nobody needs to be saying anything rn about a rookie who missed a lot of time before the regular season... dude didn't look spectacular but he was solid, not a liability, but had a lot to do with why that dline looked dominant most of the time. He may not deserve a lot of praise, but I admit, after watching replays and seeing more clips, dude was pretty impressive at times.
They should change the name of this website to the over reaction zone. Unbelievable how quickly some fans decide who sucks and who looks great. One game in and some are already decidng how good Williams will be.

True.

People might not remember this, but even Aldon Smith as a rookie didn't record a sack in his first 3 games and didn't even get a tackle in 40-ish snaps in his first game. Then he went on to have 14 sacks that season.

Not saying that Mykel Williams will ever be Aldon Smith, just that it can take time for rookies to adjust to the NFL game.

I'm stuck seeing one play QB for the 9ers on Sunday.

He's upgraded our run game, holds his position, takes up blockers freeing up others, and has had an overall positive impact on the D. Pass rush will be a bonus and may come down the line. The fact that D is better with him on the field is a big win for a rookie. More than we can say for Collins!

Might become a Justin Smith type player when all is said and done. Not a sack monster but overall tone setter and impact guy that unlocks the D. Although cowboy was more explosive and Mykel is longer. Could be a hybrid of cowboy and Armstead. Main concern is durability.
