one of the front page articles with lynch talked about this pick. We had heard before about them looking to trade up. New was the info that if he was off the board, they would have taken an offensive player. I figured it at first it would have meant OT but it would have been a reach for the next one Conley.
I was then wondering if it would have been Warren. There was also the talk of an offer of a 2nd for Kittle. They still would have needed a DE but that pick could have gotten someone like Oladejo. Interesting, but glad we got our guy that should pan out and also kept Kittle.

. .

The thought was the Saints might get Mykel so the 49ers looked to move in front. They took Banks instead and we get Mykel. Had the Saints taken Mykel, Banks may have still been an option for us.

I know we need o line help but I didn't love the banks selection for us. I'm glad it played out how it did.

but I do agree with you that I think the thought was that the saints wanted mykel

That first rep, tho. That's a beautiful sigh to behold. One of Mykel's weaknesses on tape was that he struggled to take a tight track to the quarterback after he's beaten his man. Love seeing him get that inside foot down and pointed towards the QB. Him dipping, getting low and turning on a dime is exactly what you want to see him improving. This kid is going to be good. I predict that doubters and haters will be in shambles.

So much freaking potential. I know Kocurek is grinning ear to ear getting to mold this kid.

Love it!! I know he played last season with an ankle injury, is he fully healthy now??
I like Alfred Collins but the 49ers should've followed up the Williams pick with Mike Green in the second round. On 3rd downs u move Williams inside and rush Bosa and Green from the edges.

The reports, including Williams himself, have said he's 100% now. So hopefully he stays healthy.

honestly if he was healthy last year, I don't think he makes it out of top 5, probably earlier. At one point he was widely expected to go as the #1 pick (before his injury filled final year).

Not sold on Green at all. Collins seems like he's more likely to make a bigger difference.
Green comes with the Aldon Smith potential but he might also come with the unwanted baggage. Too much of a risk for a rebuilding team.

I agree. They wanted to steer clear of players that had issues like Green. Williams is also bigger and more versatile. He can occasionally be moved inside to give a different look.

No thank you.

I'd love a player like Green. 6'3 250 speed rusher meets the mold of Dee Ford, Floyd, or Sam Ebukam. I'd love the 49ers to bring in a guy like this. But its hard to spend a 2nd rounder and what would be a situational pass rusher (nevermind the baggage) when you need a starting DT. Collins is a unique specimen. Get him while you can, sure up the biggest hole and need on the defense. I was a little shocked we didnt go after a Swinson, Tyler Baron, Powell-Ryland type in the draft, or try to bring in a guy like Kaimon Rucker or Elijah Ponder as a UDFA. We've had great luck grabbing edge in free agency as well. The fact that we did nothing after Mykel, makes me think the staffs feels comfortable with some combination of blitzing more and the development of guys like Beal.
