Honestly if he can stop the run that's already a huge plus.

I think that was Kyles and lynch's #1 priority this off-season. Building a defense that's gonna be hard to run against, and I think they may have just accomplished that with these draft picks.

Now we just need to hope they stay healthy cause the current depth behind the rookies is rough. Unless guys make improvements but everyone sucked outside of Bosa last year at stopping the run.

Yeah our depth everywhere outside of maybe WR once Ayuik is healthy is pretty bad. We are one serious star injury from having a gaping hole

Thats most teams, including Webzone favorites the Eagles. It's hard to maintain when you have serious injuries to star players. I trust this team more than most to weather the storm though given their history.

Why would you put YGM or Elliot in on 3rd down pass rush package? They aren't good pass rushers. And I don't see either holding off our young guns. Give me Bosa on the right side with TX beef. Then put Sam and Williams on the other side.

I trust that Saleh can put together an admirable performance if some guys miss games. I had hope for the last two coordinators but it's nice to finally have some real confidence that the defense will be alright. These last two years have sucked knowing that our defense would be super inconsistent.

if the run defense and special teams can go from bottom of the league to even middle of the league, that's a ton of extra wins right there and stops putting our offense in so many horrible situations.

Idk maybe I've been spoiled with good backups all these yrs but I can't remember the last time I have no hope in 75% of our depth
Not a lot of depth and relying heavily on rookies it seems so yeah .
We went from having Nick Bosa and nobody to having Bosa and Williams on the edge and Afred Collins and CJ West on the inside. The Dline has been revamped over night. And now the other guys we have as depth looks better because they are not starters. I love Having Givens, and Anderson as our 3 and 4 DT's, That's good depth. But it would be brutal for us if they were starters. Same goes for Edge, I love having Matos and Sam OK as our depth but I would hate it if they were our starter opposite Bosa.

Yup, loving getting young dlinemen that we can rotate in and out to keep fresh during games. We need to invest at least one or two dlinemen every draft tbh

Technically we went from Collins/Floyd/Hargrave to Collins/Williams/West

I mean sure, they released the former three, but it is a bit misleading imo to say we went from Bosa and nobody because they didnt actually play "Bosa and nobody" in actual games.

Sure seemed like they played "Bosa and Nobody" 😭😭

Hargrave was out after week 3 right? Counting him seems silly.

I agree that Nick wasn't out there with just nobodies but people also forget the biggest change on defense - Sorenson to Saleh switch.

That alone gives us a better defense. The fact that the 3 rookies are easily better run defenders than the guys we released also improves our odds of success.

As someone put it - when you go from 3rd and 4 to 3rd and 7, the success rate for the offense dips considerably. With guys better able to stop the run the odds of your defense seeing more 3rd and 7+ vs 3rd and 4- is improved.

I think what's intriguing to me is that while none of the rookie DLmen we drafted have eye popping pass rush film, all 3 clearly have the traits and the flashes of being able to rush the passer. If they can put it all together quickly in our scheme it can be pretty special. I'm not going to count on it because that's a tough ask but we don't have to look far to see big impact from rookie DLmen. Whether it's our own Nick Bosa or even in our vacation home with Jared Verse.

They wanted better run defenders so they moved on from dead weight that couldn't defend the run to save their life

YGM is the 2nd best pass rusher on the team; yes better than Mykel (at this point) and without question better as a pass rusher than the other young guns. If healthy; he WILL be in there on 3rd downs. If you don't believe me than we can wait and see. But we rotate anyways so they will all get cracks at it
Just wondering how many rookie starters on defense the 49ers will have this year.

I can see as many as 6 and all on defense.
Mykell - RDE
Collins - 3T
West - NT
Martin - WLB/SLB
Sigle - FS
Stout - NB.

I think Mykell and Collins clearly have the easiest path to start. The other guys will have to battle for it.

Yup, minimum of 3 in bold.

Martin had a great chance but I wouldn't consider it a lock like the other guys.
