I seriously hope he turns out to be any of those guys, I just don't see it.

DeMarcus Ware (11th overall)
Willie McGinest (4th overall)
Aldon Smith (7th overall)

All basically 6'5 260lbs with long arms

Good run stoppers and edge setters

Variable pass rushing skill differences

That's his set of comps...and we hope he hits the higher end of the pass rushing skill set

he does?

He looks great when he's not blocked 🤷🏼‍♂?

I dunno an hour of watching this guy on Youtube....people saying aldon smith are crazy....dude does look slow and stiff for an edge.....

Who he looks most familiar to for me is a mini version of Bryant Young.

This dude is a smaller, more compact version of BY. Especially with as many DT snaps as he took, and the way he stunts. It really reminds me of year 2 BY...I think that was the year Stubby was just blowing people off the line and BY had all that clean up action.

He is a clean up dude, maybe the least explosive player in 80% of his videos...other guys cause havoc...he cleans it up.

Really, reallllly reminds me of the Stubby/BY dynamic...especially early in their pairing. Stubby was so much more explosive...but also took himself out of plays too. BY was more cautious and did his job.

This is why I think he will fit on the 49ers...dude seems to stay on his feet, and stay active. He is almost the ANTI-BOSA. Bosa ends up on the ground alot, this dude stays on his feet more then most bendy pass rushers. Also like BY he has a fair amount of tape showing his cautious lateral movement. Maybe a dude who does not over extend on defense.

Yeah....my Comp is an end version of BY. Actually about as athletic as old BY when he spent time as an end.

With as often as our linebackers were washed out by horrible run lane integrity, this dude seems to be really fundamental....he is not a hair on fire dude, he seems wayyyy more calculated and stays up right with a chance to make the play.

I was hoping for a blue chip CB/OT/Pass Rusher.....but this guy fills a need, and has upside. I could easily see this guy bulking up and being a tweener at DT in the NFL too.

I think this dude has a shot to be a really safe pick, maybe he ends up with some sacks, but I would bet they are sheer effort, not instant pressure. Not the worse thing that can happen on the other side of Bosa.

everyone can have an opinion but none of this makes sense to me

but you did watch an hour of youtube
I'm good with this pick. Williams probably has some further development as a pass rusher, but he's young (20) and talented. There is risk with all these guys. Right now I'm optimistic.

Duane Brugler had the same comp.

Every 1st rounder ever picked was a stud in college and had a lot of potential. It's all a crap shoot

20 years old. High-end athletic traits. Dominant run defender. I'm going to sleep good tonight.

Man if he turned into JPP, that would be phenomenal. JPP at his height was an absolute stud.

so true.....but often you can at least speculate why they are studs...and some things translate to the NFL better then other things.

I am warming up to this pick. Like GoldBlooded pointed out early, I got all of an hour knowing who this dude is... but I see a safe calculating player that will fill a vital need on this team. We have lane integrity issues against the run and our linebackers seldom got clean chances to defend the run...this feels like a win to me.

I watched highlights and I saw the Texas film and I came away seeing a guy that was a thinker and understood his assignment.
I would also bet he is a gold helmet guy

Team leader (at age 20) and zero red flags to worry about
