Man, rough luck for the Niners. The way we're battling and fighting makes you wonder just how good we could be if fully healthy.

I think Mykel has shown real promise for the future given his age and inexperience and hopefully he comes back 100% healthy next year when ready.

Tough decision now on trading to keep the show rolling this year.

This is devastating for his development. The team needed him to spend the offseason focused on improving his pass rush. Instead, he'll focus on rehabbing an injury.

What really sucks is that MetLife will have natural grass for the World Cup soccer games next year, as per FIFA mandate, but will convert back to turf after the games are over.
f**k

Yeah that kind of says it all. Giants lost a player as well, yesterday, iirc. How do they have any players left by the end of the season?
Looks like Mykel tore his meniscus as well
I don't know if articial truf can be blamed for all these injuries. Wed had just as many stadiums usingit in the 1`970s and *80s and there weren't this many injuries. The turf back then wasn't nearly as good as the stuff they use now. It was hard as rock.

As an old guy that attended over 350 games in SF I can tell you that injuries weren't nearly the issue that they are now. When we we doing the 40 minute drive to and from Candlestick we weren't listening to a lot of talk on the pre and post game shows about injuries. Today half the talk is about who's playing and who's out. After the game the talk is about who got injured as nuch as the game itself.

The league keeps adding new rules to cut down on injuries but they aren't addressing the real issue. Players are just too big and fast now. Players used to be able to tackle in ways that are banned now and we didn't see as many devastating injuries as we do now. Yes there were some bad ones but not as many. It seems like every game I watch now someone is getting taken off the field on a cart.

The biggest change othewr than rules has been the size of the players. Not so much the skill players but the linemen. O line is now 30-50 lbs heavier per man on average. D line is also bigger by 20-40 lbs. . The result is more violent collisions. Even if a guy that big falls on you accidently you're more likely to get injured. Bones and ligaments can only take so much stress before they break.

I don't know how the league can control this other than to tell players to cut back on supplements and start getting down to a more reasonable size. It shouldn't be that hard. Many lineman get smaller once they stop training. Joe Staley is a shadow of his old self. The problem is these big guys and the violent collisons sell tickets. It's an issue that needs to be taken up between owners and the players association. Both sides would benefit if they could cut down on the serious injuries.

Playing soccer on artificial turf is really bad, worse than football. Besides having a lot more short sprints/acceleration where turf doesnt provide as much give, soccer ball also is affected by the surface and it becomes very bouncy. You also have to play in different cleats. Soccer player really hate the artificial turf most of the time.

Not to mention World Cup will be in the middle of summer when it can get real hot.

The advantage of turf is really all about how cheap and easy it is to maintain in all kinds of temperatures and scenarios. Ie, its always about the $$$ and convenience.

I think this is spot on. Muscles can grow stronger and stronger, but no amount of exercise, weight lifting or conditioning makes ligaments stronger.

100% accurate. Get rid of steroids from this sport, but it is always about the $$$$.

I do feel in todays day and age every field should be the same regulated natural grass. Practice fields as well, but that would cost the owners money.
