I can see Brock on IR to make us forget he exists and roll with Mac.

I swear some of these takes are wild.

like the one poster said, we are in the honeymoon stage with Mac. Same exact stage we went through with some of our other quarterbacks.

When Jimmy G took over he was the next coming of Joe Montana. His first few seasons we were all happy we finally had a franchise QB. Then we realized his ceiling was lower than we thought and we moved on.

Same exact thing with Brock Purdy but with a higher ceiling and I'm not quite sure we know his true ceiling yet but it's better than Jimmy G.

Mac Jones has the same exact arch as Brock. Huge numbers and win after win. Everyone on here is riding his nuts just like we did with Brock but will abandon him once his true ceiling is revealed.

Heck even Nick Mullins had a couple good games.

point being is every decent QB we have has looked great at first but has eventually leveled off. Mac maybe playing better than Purdy at this particular moment but we just don't know what it will look like in the future.

I'm just enjoying his great performance. It's definitely a honeymoon period. Just keep winning.

usually you don't really get to see "what if we took X player instead of Y" but we are here. It was clear at the time that Mac was the most logical choice, just not an exciting one, and didn't seem to have a high "ceiling".

with hindsight, Mac should of been the player cause that roster was in "win now" mode and having such a green qb like Trey didn't make any sense, IMO.

is what it is - I'm glad to see him thriving with us.

Bamaniner said this exact same thing…..months before the actual draft
All while 98% of this forum, led by NYnoner showed their as* and complete lack of football knowledge

The Mac Jones that we have now isn't the Mac Jones we would have got in 2021. Would everyone on here have been patient enough to wait for him to improve to his current level. I'm thinking not. I could never understand the hate for him in the first place. He comes across as a humble bloke with a nice football brain. He played terrific on Thursdat night.

He came in as ready to go as any qb that year. He was a pro bowler his rookie year. He was/is tailor made for Kyles offense. He knew how to command a huddle full of pro bowlers and we could've had him at 12

The team traded up to the third pick before they knew who they were going to take. So the realistic alternative history scenario is that the 49ers take Mac Jones at 3. Given the poor OL, I think Mac wouldnt survive long (same as now). Purdy's mobility and escapability allows him to not sit back and take all the hits.

Now, if we hadn't traded up to 3, it would be interesting to think about taking Mac at 12 and then using high draft picks in 2022 and 2023 on OL.
I'm okay with Jones starting for as long as it takes Purdy to let that toe heal completely. Otherwise it's going to be bothering him all year. The Niners aren't facing a juggernaut schedule so they can ride with Jones a little longer.

But do you remember the game or two from JT O'Sullivan that got us all so frikkin excited about our future! We finally have a QB who can sling it. Lulz.

That's why I never get overly excited about any player when they start out with a couple good games. Just like I never get down on players that struggle early on. All players don't develop at the same rate. QBs often have a couple good games when teams aren't prepared for them. Especially guys that haven't played in the league at all.

Jones is a little different because he started several games (more than Purdy) so there's a lot of game film on him. For him it was just how quickly he could pick up Kyle's system and he seems to have done that very well.
Wait wut?

What?? My goodness.

Mac had a very nice deep ball at Bama. Dude would sling piss missiles down the field. We haven't even seen that part of his game yet. That's one aspect of his game that I will say is better than Purdy's.

Nah, the deep ball is Purdy's check down. He's fine there.

With the receivewrs we have available we aren't likely to see many deep throws. Kyle knows that Jones has limited mobility and even more now with the knee issue so he's not going to call deep plays. Jones needs to get the ball out quickly like he's been doing. The Niners don't have a line like Alabama and receivers that can run those deep patterns like Smith and Waddle.

His stats were not Pro Bowl worthy and he did not play well to end the year.

That's b******t. You are naturally ignoring the fact that Mac Jones had a very good rookie year and led a s**tty Pats team to the playoffs. Having a guy that actually know how to call an offense is a game changer. He was mess when Bill hired defensive guys to coach the offense but that team was awful as a whole. He looks like he did under McDaniels. Nick Mullens was a flash in the pan. This isn't the same situation at all.

The bottom line is Purdy dating back to last season has become a turnover machine. You can't win that way especially if you're not producing as many TDs. Everyone smashed the pundits for saying Purdy needs to be surrounded by all elite talent and he's proving them right. Jones isn't turning the ball over and he's making some big time throws and the 49ers are winning because of that.
