We may be able to pull something like that off. It would be a nice pickup.

Only issue I have with it is Mac does seem to be an ideal backup for us, so having him for another year would be great. The other part is that we suck at selecting the second round. lol I almost feel like it would be a wasted pick.

I think Mac is going to start a couple more games for us this year, Arizona and Jacksonville, so we will see how he performs. he can sh!t the bed in those games and all this value and praise will dissipate.

If Jones show convincingly in the next 2 or 3 games that he can run Kyle's offense then they have to decide if it's more importatnt to have a good backup QB or a 2nd round pick. Brock hasn't missed a lot of time but he has had injuries including one serious one. He was fortunate that it happened at the end of the season so he didn't miss an entire year.

If this happens, I hope Mac goes to a solid situation. I can actually see Minnesota wanting him. He would be a great fit for them. That system and the talent, I think he would do really well.

Obviously we would need a great return.

Big difference between having an experienced backup and someone who hasn't played. The problemwill be keeping Jomnes if he gets any offers to start somewhere. This is why I keep advocating for the NFL allowing teams to exempt the QB salary from the cap so they can pay the backup enough to retain him.

Nobody said there wasn't a difference in that; that goes without saying. If there wasn't experience; there wouldn't be this talk about 2nd round pick. No problem in keeping Jones if he gets offers to start somewhere; he's under contract next season as well. If anything that's good news for us if he's getting offer"s" to start somewhere, can drive our asking price up.

His contract is for 2 years. I doubt anyone will offer a 2nd rounder but if they did i'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat. Benched QBs should be lining up at the door to be a backup here if Mac flourishes here.

He was right and it was one of the easiest decisions never made but that path led us to Brock Purdy so I'm good with it.

I think we should try to pay/keep him to be our backup QB for a few more seasons.
