But the difference from Purdy in the pocket was night and day. The fumble from Mac was so bad…you can't have a rusher planted on his ass be able to get up and force a fumble. Get that ball out, step up in the pocket…feel the guy! Crazy bad play.
Not going to bag on him for his misses cuz Brock and every QB has those. Just need him to do better in the pocket. Any time there was any traffic around him I was waiting for something bad to happen.
But once again…kudos for getting it done.
I need to see the all 22 on that one. It's possible no one was open.

Best back up the 9ers had since Jimmy G.

He played well, though I think the Saints defense was a much easier assignment than the Seahawks defense.

Nah. The saints had to earn every yard the hard way and managed to execute some difficult plays.

this is great for the 49ers,... after this game, Jones is going to have a good trade value next offseason
it was a smart move to sign him to 2 years,... from Darnold's deal,... now the team can get something from Kyle reviving another QB's career
could they get a 3rd from him?

How about we just keep him.

No. We need a backup.

Shanny probably thinking to himself: I told you so.

Fortunately, it all led to Purdy, so I wouldn't change a thing.

We'll have gotten one more year of having a reliable backup QB.

He played really well. I was surprised. He's an accurate thrower if given time. You have to like the 6'3" also. He's just not real mobile.

niners can sign another Darnold or Jones-type of QB and repeat the process

I mean its all about the return you get
The return for one year rental of Mac Jones will not be a high pick. It will be like a 6th rounder at the very most. At that cost, Id rather just keep the guy. This team always needs a backup QB to come in.

We can also get compensation when he signs somewhere after two years.
If someone came along and blew us away with an offer? Sure. That's not going to happen though more than likely, and if it does it will mean he played very well for a period of time.
He's valuable to us.
