We need to talk about the previous drafts

Looks to me drafting improved after Adam Peters left.

I know it's just one draft though

Would've been really cool if the Niners would've won a championship

trading up to 3 to take brock would be phenomenally dumb. so even if i grant your scenario it's dumb as rocks.

The 49ers consistently find at least one star player in about every draft, which ANY team would take. Landing any All-Pro caliber talent in a draft is rare. Our drafts might be feast or famine, but id rather hit big on a difference maker once a draft than hit on 3-4 average starters per draft.

2019: Bosa, Deebo, Greenlaw
2020: Aiyuk, Jennings
2021: Lenoir, Hufanga
2022: Purdy

From 2023 and 2024, which are still way too early to judge, we have promising players in Brown, Pearsall, Green, Puni, and Mustapha.

I'm not seeing any issues with our drafting TBH. The only glaring aspect is we've found studs at about every position except OL, which is really apparent now that Trent looks finished. Puni has nice potential, but the OL we've built is embarrassing. Getting Trent masked the smell for a while now, but now its exposed. I will never understand NFL teams' obsession with trying to save money on the OL and paying star skill position guys. If your OL is great you don't need as much talent because the QB has time to find open guys.

problem is BA and Deebo aren't that good. only good on first contract. then you pay a lot of cap for nothing. unfortunate injury on BA and Deebo not built or utilized for long term sustained career. Huf hasn't been right since Trey Lance era 2022.

This logic of "just think of Purdy as the Lance pick" or "well, we got Demo in 2021 so it's a great draft overall" doesn't work when we have no SB wins to show for the 7.5 seasons of the Shanalynch regime and the talent level is on the decline.

You trade whatever it takes to get a franchise QB. Any team would. We traded off Lance because we discovered a gem in Purdy. We traded up for a franchise QB, and we drafted a 7th round backup, and we gained a franchise QB and dumped the backup. Thats all that matters.

The trade up for Lance was the real killer. A decision that potentially prevented us from adding even more talent to an already loaded roster that could have helped us with winning a super bowl or two.

You trade whatever it takes to get a franchise QB. Any team would. We traded off Lance because we discovered a gem in Purdy. We traded up for a franchise QB, and we drafted a 7th round backup, and we gained a franchise QB and dumped the backup. Thats all that matters.

yeah you trade what it takes. what it took for brock was pick 262. you want to play mental mind games to say it took three ones to get brock. yet that is false.

if you look at the rams, they won a ring essentially over us. they walked over us to get their ring. they did it with von miller, ramsey, trading for stafford, etc. so even if you can't draft, you can flip these picks for proven stars. it was known as the eff them picks era for LA. they have pivoted since and are drafting pretty well with Les Snead.
