Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

Internal hire is weird imo. So he wasn't the guy last yr, so you fire the guy that was supposedly better, then hire him?

It would suggest throwing s**t at the wall and seeing what sticks rather than having an actual plan he's confident with.

Yep. Or that he thinks only he can have complete control on the offensive and defensive side. So if one of his own younglings takes the role, it gives Kyle free reign to call the game as he pleases.

the 49ers are about to self combust if this happens…

This, agreed

DeMeco was an internal hire btw.

Yes but in the context NY correctly pointed out it's weird.

We didn't know how the play would have turned out. He burned the TO because he didn't like the alignment. Kyle is actually very savvy on defense so you could be right.

We just saw him run the same play on a previous third down. Even Romo was calling it out like "wtf are they doing?"

Or, and maybe you guys would see this as an overly rosey perspective, but maybe whoever the internal hire was closed whatever perceived skill gap in that year.

Or he saw Sorensen succeed in an expanded role as defensive pass coordinator and believes he's ready for more? That's the only internal candidate that somewhat makes sense to me.

Yeah. The DC was bad, so lets get his subordinate?

Could have just done that midseason, right?
I heard he's bringing back Tomsula

Wow, they overlapped 2007-2009.

Yeah Sorensen looks like he's still growing. Literally.

I believe he'd put his neck on the line for this defense.

I assume the race between Sorenson and another DC candidate is neck and neck.

This of course

I just don't buy that any internal hire is a top candidate to replace Wilks. For one, it's not a good start to try and win back fans when they're blaming you for losing the Super Bowl. Two, if its taking you this long to hire a DC only to settle for an internal hire, it tells me he was the plan C or D and couldn't really get the coach you wanted. Again not a good start if you're trying to win back the crowd, which he should be. Another blunder at DC and the natives will really start to get restless.

Maybe I'm being ridiculous but when fans and media start noticing s**t, coaches are removed from the booth and put on the field.

Pete Carroll is the father of the flawed defense that sent him out the door in Seattle. Six years of the same system in SF, and it's only amounted to failure. Andy Reid, and other hot-shot veterans like McCarthy run an offense upgraded from the 49ers/Holmgren branch. Remember that Belichick's 3-4 has been stopping these Walshian systems since the days of Parcells. Keena Turner and the boys upstairs need to bury their grudges, and Shanahan needs to save his job. Lynch owes Bill a couple of favors as well, like giving Lynch a job in New England before the NFLPA forced Johnny off to the glue factory. Also, Kraft is kind of hurting Belichick right now the way Brown did to Walsh in the late 70's, so that's another reason to trust Belichick.

It's a pipe dream, but Belichick is really the only way out of this hole. Probably the only way we're close the gap, and catch the NFL off guard. Belichick is not about power and control... he's about discipline, structure, and winning. If Kyle wants to save his crooked ass job, he's gonna need Bill's help, and I don't think putting down 16 Mil on a defensive coordinator is a waste when there's a Superbowl/growth window involved.

Yeah, but I'll probably click the news on by tomorrow morning, and it's some retread vetran from our past to keep the fans brainwashed/lulled into a false-nostalgia high leading to failure. They did that to Jim Carrey in the Truman show (bringing his dead father back) when Truman tried to leave, and the niners love doing that. Kyle doesn't even know that Joe, Steve are all possibly sabotaging the team for Eddie D Holdings.

Triple slants is an upgraded offense

Seriously. I know who not to take seriously.
