🏆 SUPER BOWL LVIII PREGAME THREAD - SF 49ERS vs KC CHIEFS 🏆

Twenty nine years ago I was in an all inclusive club in Antigua. There was not a single tv set on the property, which is fine, unless your team is in th Super Bowl. A small restaurant and bar was nearby, overlooking a small, rocky bay. so we walked over to that to watch the game. A couple of sailboats were anchored in the bay, and a British couple off of one of them walked up and joined us at our table. They knew Nothing about American football, so were asking a zillion questions. We were Niner fans, yes we thought they would win, our confidence in that was very high, and we might have the best offense in the history of the league. Statistically, we did, as we had scored 505 points that season, and at that time, that had never been done. I said I didn't think it was likely San Diego would be able to stop us from scoring on more than a couple of possessions, and while SD would score some points on our awfully good defense, I saw no way they could keep up with that. Well, six touchdown passes from Steve Young later, I was looking awfully prescient.

Eleven years later, we were sailing around Antigua in our sailboat, and I looked at that bay, and there is no way on Gods Green Earth I would Ever have the courage to sail through that rocky entrance to that bay. Maybe the British Admiralty charts were better than ours, as they owned that island for centuries, but I don't know.

I don't have any idea who's going to win the game Sunday, but I sure wish I had the courage of my convictions that I did on that day. I do not.

In 94 I think the infamous SI cover was 'the Real Super Bowl' previewing the Dallas SF NFCCG. Everyone knew the winner of that game, would win the SB. Had we not won that NFCCG, DAL would have probably won 4 straight SBs and would be viewed as the greatest NFL team of all time.

f**k 'em.

"Can't go against Mahomes" These F'n experts act like its not a team game, just about QB. Did they forget their WR led the league in drops? That they only scored about 20 per game vs our 30. It's going to be fun hearing the excuses on Monday.

It's the dawn of a new king, baby. The world doesn't know what we know about Brock. They're making decisions about him based off of 4 games (minnesota, baltimore, GB, & Lions) - those are the prime time games those guys saw. So they look down upon Brock in a way.

time to let 'em know.

Can somebody please photoshop Brock into an image of the lion King when they raise up Simba and acknowledge him as new king, Brock=Simba!

Obviously this is the right answer. When the 49ers win this game, a new narrative will surface, saying that not only is Brock who we've know this whole time, but they're going to want to spin it into the next iteration of Manning/Brady. Nobody wants just one great QB in the league who isn't rivaled, fans would grow tired as hell of that. We are about to witness the dawn of the next great rivalry!
Man what are the chances of 49ers putting a beating like they did to the eagles and cowboys?

All you say is true. It's also true that the Chiefs had to win on the road against those teams. I noted that the Niners came from behind twice so I know they can. I'm just not confident that they can against a good defense that is playing well.

Wouldn't you rather see the Niners jump on the Chiefs right out of the gate and make them play from behind instead of eating the clock with a lead? Of course you would. The Niners have been a better team when playing with the lead. It allows more running plays which eventually open up bigger passing plays.

I'm not saying they can't win if they need to come from behind. I just hope they don't need to. If they have to come from behind they have to make sure they don't leave Mahomes any time to come back. They have a good place kicker so it doesn't take many yards for them to get into position. A 9 point lead with 2 minutes to play would be nice.

I want this to be the 94 SB all over again. Straight blowout.

my point is they've proven they can blow teams out and come from behind vs BETTER teams.

Again I've laid out who they've played since Thanksgiving. Let's stop acting like that D was going against Brady every week…quite the opposite. They're horrible vs PA and stopping the run. Two things SF is great at. They're awful defending 21 personnel. Guess what we run.

You want to talk about momentum. KC is coming in off of 5 straight drives of punting, while SF is coming off 5 straight drives of scoring.

I get it Mahomes is scary and can pull s**t out of his ass. Turns out this team can pull s**t out of their ass all the same

Start fast, and that's sometimes the game script of how to attack early, and who wins the x's and o's. Say we get two TDs on our first two drives, it lets the D play from the front and play pass, which is more our wheelhouse, and the O can wear you out with our ground game, that's the recipe.

I truly believe the chances are good. Top to bottom we are the better team by far, we just have to play like it. We will, 9ers 38-20

Reading the national media analysis makes me think it's going to be a nail biter.
Reading NY's analysis makes me think it's going to be 55-10 49ers.
Hopefully it was a KC employee who pulled the fire alarm, what CMCs mom is suggesting. It means KC believes they stand little to no chance Sunday

after being exhausted by KC predictions, it was fun to see this on Rotoworld staff predictions:

Denny Carter — 49ers 38 - Chiefs 10

"The math is not allowing me to see this as an even affair or anything close to it. The Niners are a machine, and their offense matches up well with a top-end Kansas City defense that should be bludgeoned via the run here. I really believe the 49ers could crack 200 rushing yards in this game. This Chiefs team does not have the ability to score points quickly. They'll be forced to dink and dunk their way down the field. That won't be enough. Niners win in a dominant performance."

to be fair, the next prediction was 34-14 KC

Yeah man no problem….any given Sunday though.

SF could totally forget how to play football, everyone could get hurt, Brock could go full Zack Wilson, or the Refs could single-handedly determine the outcome of the game

but we're a tier above KC this yr…just are.

Ironically zack Wilson outplayed mahomes, and the chiefs only beat the jets because they were bailed out by the refs.
chiefs is definitely the safe pick, can't blame these people on tv

You are right, since 2019 they have tried to crown the next top QB. Starting with Baker, then Dak, Allen, Lamar, Herbert and others. Purdy doesn't get the respect as he plays on a loaded team and he wasn't highly regarded in the draft. In a lot of ways it isn't fair to him. He has no control over which team he ended up on or how scouts viewed him. If he has a good game with few mistakes it may or may not change. If he is exceptional it will for sure. If he flounders it will just justify some of the talk. As a Chiefs fan of course I want us to win. To be honest I would prefer both quarterbacks play well when it happens. He seems like a good dude.
