SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - 2023 Season Game 12

Damn, Eagles hadn't allowed TDs on 6 consecutive drives since 1966.

Glad to see Fletcher Cox acknowledge that it wasn't the recent games that caused the loss. (at about 0:37)

They weren't just "missing tackles", they got their ass whooped and couldn't keep up with the physicality. We beat their ass so bad that they couldn't/wouldn't tackle.

Listening to them complain about the lack of investments in the LB position for the longest time makes me grateful that Shanny and Lynch put a premium on the LB position from the moment they arrived here.

Dude just avoid the game day thread if you don't want to see dumbass fans overreacting

Or try wrapping your head around the fact that the thread follows the same ebbs and flows as the game. Nobody in the world thinks the Niners looked sharp their first 2 drives. Defense was looking shaky as well, but they got it together, as top teams do.

We all know the game has ebbs and flows. But people act as if football is linear and that we are going to lose 62 - 0 after the first. The ebbs and flows aren't acknowledged and you know there is a crowd that think football is uni-directional.

I have no idea why they're so money in later rounds of the draft and can't do that in early rounds. I don't know that they put such a premium on the position, think they drafted great or lucky. The only group they invest in is the D line, which is underperforming.
Niners danced into Philly's stadium, kicked their teeth in and laughed at their fans on the way out. This might be one of my all time favorite season wins.

I think Wilks finally figured out how this D should play mobile QBs.

I think he's done an amazing job coaching up our corners. They're playing great defense. The way they're able to track the ball and not get PI (for the most part) is w breath of fresh air

Yes, I think this is the real effect of Wilks. Coverage just holds up for an eternity. He has turned Ambry Thomas into a starter. A freaking starter. I wanted Thomas off the team and we now have three viable corners. Looking forward to adding some more DBs and for Wilks to really assemble a squad of corners and safeties.

I think it made it better that the 49ers struggled out of the gate. It meant no one could say "eagles weren't ready". 49ers didn't panic, regrouped, and dominated.

Investing substantial resources in the position is a reflection of putting a premium on the position. I mean they literally used a first-round pick in their first ever draft on a LB. They've drafted a bunch of LBs(Reuben Foster, Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, Dee Winters) and given sizeable contracts to Malcolm Smith and Kwon Alexander. Hitting on Fred in the 3rd and landing Dre in the 5th doesn't diminish the fact that they've absolutely put a premium on the position.

Them trading up to draft Reuben Foster meant they value that position from a roster composition standpoint. And that was the very first draft for this front office. If a team wants to play good zone coverage, good rangy LBs are a must.

Yeah, exactly. I don't get how anyone could think they don't put a premium on the position.
Time to get onto Seahawks week now. Big division game coming up where we can potentially lock up the division crown

Nah, let's bask in glory of this victory more. Let the players move on to SEA.

What an all around great TEAM win. Deebo, Jennings, Aiyuk, CMC, Purdy, Kittle. Mooney was out of his mind breaking up passes to Brown, even Kinlaw got sacks. TW always balls and watching them come through the tunnel is the true leader of the team, but the O line outside of him and Banks is still trash. Nice to have enough All Stars to make up for it.

Yeah, the o line is a real problem. If Purdy wasn't so mobile, they would of blown up so many plays. If we had jimmy still, it would of been ugly. Brock is able to move around and buy time, or at least stands in there without fear.

it looked like another "grenade out of a bunker" throw when he hit deebo for the 48 yard TD.

i really would like to see us knab a tackle in the draft with our first pick (assuming a good one falls to us at 32). Maybe even a center in the 3-4th round. Someone to develop.

Ditto. I'm looking forward to an OL and DB heavy draft, with us picking up a RB (late in the draft), run stuffing DT, and speed WR along the way.

Well said. I love our front to back approach.
Effing Greenlaw, that guy is just becoming a dirty player. He could have easily had two unnecessary roughness penalties today but caught a break on the first one. Have to say whatever props he earned with that awesome goal line stop against Seattle a few years ago have been cancelled out by his almost constant roughing penalties. Philly's O-line seemed like they were better than our D-line for most of the game. Hurts had all day back there. Luckily our DB's and LBs played great.

I thought this game had a good chance to be a blowout, but it felt like a closer game than it ended up being on the scoreboard. On the plus side, teams have a way of losing the week after they've played the Niners, which could be good news for both us and the Cowboys. Philly's had a string of really physical games and have to go onto Dallas' home field where they have been pretty tough to beat so the door to the number one seed is still open. Niners just have to take care of their own business. Rams and Ravens look like the toughest matchups left. If the Niners can win out you have to like their chances to take the whole thing this year. I don't think there's anybody in the AFC who can beat them so they will just have to get through the NFC playoff gauntlet. Go Niners!
