If we're giving audition to a few offensive linemen and planning to sign one, why don't we just sign Jarret Kingston from Carolina's practice squad. Maybe he's more promising than these veterans who are free agents for a reason.

Taking a player from another teams PS means you have to get them on the active roster. You don't have that limitation with vets who can get signed to PS and get elevated for a couple of games and then waived
AFAIU they're looking for a short term backup tackle replacement for Burford. So they sign him to PS and elevate for a couple of games.

he was splitting with 74, but then got injured and was declared out for the game.
