Winters isn't a lock.

I'd say he's pretty damn close to being one. He'd make it over Bethune.

Winters is more of a lock than Nick Martin.

For ST yes. Winters is fast but can't wrap up and tackle. If Martin learns his position in the offseason, he can tackle.

Who's the 3rd Lb with Warner and Greenlaw ?

I think martins is going to have an awesome camp and make winters expendable. I think Tatum gets traded.

Warner - Dre - Gifford (ST) - Martin & winters will be the backup. Wallow (or willow? Whatever the hell his name is) will be on PS.

if Martin has an awesome camp, they may trade winters and rock with wallow.

that's my opinion right now. Draft may change that.

I think we keep all these guys:

Warner/Greenlaw
Winters/Bethune

ST = Gifford/Wallow/Martin

Can't have enough LB's due to ST.

Danny Gray - third round pick in 2022, went on IR in August of 2023, cut next year
Trey Sermon - third round pick in 2021, cut in August of 2022
Cam Latu - third round pick in 2023, went on IR in August of 2023, cut August 2024
We tried but Winters isn't starting material that's why Greenlaw is back
I feel like Winters is a replacement level player and his starting role got replaced by Greenlaw. I'd try to move him for a late rounder if possible. If not just keep him for depth and let him and Martin battle it out.

But remember it took Winters 2 years to make a jump to starting caliber player so don't be so down on Martin.

Winters is OK, but not the same caliber as Greenlaw or Warner. Martin flashed in his limited snaps. The issue is that concussion. He is smaller and plays violent so his healthy is my main concern.

Disagree. I think Winters grew a lot last year. He's a solid starter who can still get better. Given Dre's injury history we need all the LB depth we can get.
Here's what I think. The position is like their WR corps. 2-3 unprovens at the positions where they have to find out if they can play-prove to the coaches they made the right choice. In Winters case he's shown flashes while at the same time making mistakes and getting injured. This will be his last year regardless and he can show how good he has become or if he's gotten no better. If he's good someone will overpay and it's not worth it giving money to someone who still has to deal with the injury factor. In his final year he's ripe to step up while making little money. After 3 years this potential diamond-in-the-rough is still being polished.

As for the WR's one of our speed smerfs(Watkins/Cowling) will hopefully step up. Room in the draft for one bigger WR to go through the same process.
LB's Bethune and Martin will still be in the developmental stage same as Watkins/Cowling. No room for a newcomer as Eric Kendricks will probably be available during the season.

I'm old enough to remember when John Taylor and Guy McIntyre were both entering their 3rd year right on the Bill Walsh timeline. That offseason McIntyre was arrested for chasing his wife down the street and the following year Taylor got suspended for some kind of drug. While looking forward to the fruits of their development sometimes the best laid plans go astray. Hopefully one of each(LB/WR) will step up.
Bottom line Winters is not thrilled with Greenlaw return. Greenlaw starting majority **knock on wood** whole season means Winters loses out on potential lucrative contract.

Which means he'll leave next year.
Well if they trade Warner.....lol nah but has Martin even cleared the concussion protocol yet?? thats why he went on IR.

Winters and Bethune both have problems tackling. hopefully greenlaws signing lights a fire under winters butt.
