Kinlaw was never going to benefit from anyone playing next to him because he can't win 1-on-1 with any modicum of consistency. He could have Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor on each side of him, and it wouldn't make a big difference. You can put a diamond next to a piece of s**t, and it doesn't make the turd any more valuable.

Armstead has been fine. Can he play better? Of course, but I'm not worried about him.

Hargrave has been good. The wide 9s puts extreme physical demand on interior DL, and the recent games have been grueling. Moreover, this DL has no depth, so the main guys have been asked to play a lot. All of them have looked tired to me recently, but I expect them to get back to putting heat on the QB with fresher legs.

Except everything thing they've been saying is that Wilks really isn't employing the traditional W9

Their base alignment is two 9 techniques; a 2i nose; 3tech on the strong side. That's the wide 9. The biggest difference is how Wilks is employing the wide 9 on pass downs.

Please continue. How is he using it differently, why is that resulting in fewer sacks and is it something he could/would change?
The biggest difference I see is Wilks has somehow changed how the DL's used...have to remember his background is defensive backfield. He's also the first DC from outside the Niner organization since Shanahan & Lynch took over. Both Saleh and Ryans figured out how to unleash the pass rush all the while controlling the run game. Obviously, Wilks hasn't. I read that he and Shanahan were supposed to have a "heart to heart" discussion. Hopefully it has or will happen. If I'm Coach, I tell Wilks to get back to the basics he inherited.

Hargrave has been a little disappointing but so has the entire D line. We all thought that adding Hargrave was going to make the D line a real force. For some reason, it hasn't happened. Coaching change? Maybe. Bosa signing the big contract after holding out. Maybe but not likely. They need to figure ut the problem and fix itsoon because the rest of the schedule is tougher than the first part was. Jags, Seahawks twice, Eagles and Ravens are all potential losses.

I didn't.

How TF did you not think adding Hargrave to this DL would not help us? Or make us a real force? What do you think about Young being added? Let me guess, he's not a CB or OL, so it doesn't matter.

I said I loved the pickup but it wouldn't move the needle much from a defense that was already #1 last year. I was most pleased he was a passrusher though! We needed that at 3T.

I love Hargrave and Young. But yes, unless they suddenly become historic, it's not going to matter much in the end for 2 of the 3 reasons you noted...like always.

If the QB gets the ball out as quickly to the slant, hot route flat or straight screens as they have the last 3 games, it won't matter. We have no nickel corner that can stop it and our d line won't get a chance to hit the QB. Yes Chase is a great pickup but our corners have to cover better to allow enough time for the rush to develope.

The clown was right again. No balloon for you.
We can have the Fearsome Foursome but it wouldn't matter if our secondary keeps conceding completions in less than 2.5 seconds because the corners are giving 10-yd cushions.

Being that the guy you wanted is mediocre and overpaid not really.
Knew injury might have him out this week. I thought this signing was a home run. Starting to look like a double. Gonna be tough stopping the run with Givens and kinlaw
