Jake Moody-K-Michigan 3rd Round 2023 Draft

Watching Kyle looking disgusted on the sidelines after the second FG miss, you knew what would happen.
I feel like more than wanting to be right because Jake Moody was a third rounder, Kyle and John just wanted to give him one last chance.
I could see John Lynch being the former great player he was, trying to help the kid get his confidence back.

But like some have said on this topic, having some star players angry as hell after Sunday was the final nail in the coffin.
You can't have your kicker missing 27 yards FGs. It's impossible. The second missed FG was because of the line but the first miss was just horrendous.
If you're Shanahan, it affects your playcall of course. If you're Purdy it makes you more aggressive and desperated.
Imagine if the team had lost on Sunday by 1 point, all the tremendous job Saleh and the Defense had done would have gone to the toilets.
It's a shame but if the team doesn't believe in his kicker, he's f**ked and you have to fire him.

I also think that the timing just after week 1 is great because now everybody on the team knows that they're serious about winning and you'd better perform on Sunday.

My only thought is the team must have looked closely at the game tape and made the decision that that FG block was also on Moody. In other words, he kicked it too low. Despite the breakdown on the line, it was going to get blocked anyway. That would account for two botched FGA by the kicker. Just a thought. But, I don't really know.

Ja'iyr Brown, Cameron Latu and Jake Moody all chosen in the 3rd that year.

We could have had Kobi Turner, Tre Tucker and Blake Freeland instead of those 3 bums. This team is awful at drafting.

I mean we could play that game every yr for every team. Brown wasn't really a reach (feel like they traded up for him though) but there's no excuse for taking moody and Latu where they did.

We can indeed play this game every year for every team.
I mean I remember people being legit angry because they drafted Renardo Green and not Kingsley Suamataia.
Fast forward 18 months later and Renardo is a starter at a really important position, CB and Suamataia so far is just an average RT at best that would be back up behind Colton McKivitz on this team.
And I could talk about Dee Winters being a 6th rounder two years ago and looking awesome against the Seahawks.
They have missed on lot of picks and had some really bad misses (Solomon Thomas, Foster, Lance, Kinlaw, etc...) but they have also found some fantastic players all over the draft.

Nolan started the trend with Nedney, so this was basically a twenty year strategy that worked great. They should have never deviated from it.
