Why are people obsessed with where he was picked? It doesn't matter any more. Little was a 6th round pick and as a rookie was one of the best kickers in the NFL.

Another thing that I hadn't thought about was that Moody didn't have a good coach until this year, so much like the hope Saleh brings to the defense Boyer brings to Special Teams.

What keeps coming back to me on Moody is this. Who is out there that is clearly better? Would spending another draft pick at K have guaranteed an improvement at K? The answers are: There is nobody clearly better in free agency, and spending a draft pick would have made people even more angry and assured nothing as far as late game field goal accuracy.

of note:
There were 0 kickers drafted this year
The top kicking prospect Ryan Fitzgerald signed as a UDFA for the Panthers and has been so bad they are looking at Greg Joseph who is nothing special.

There's something to be said about where someone is picked, especially a kicker. I personally feel IMHO that Moody should be great if they saw third round talent especially in a kicker. Was moody coveted in that draft and he would have went soon after us? Maybe. But with our history in those rounds 3-5, he was a waste of a pick at this point

Sure, but that conversation doesn't really matter now, it mattered during that draft. There is no going back and not drafting him. And him being a 3rd round pick has no impact on if he hits the next FG or not.

As for during that draft ... there was another kicker taken 12 picks later, I think by the Pats. So there was SOME demand at the position around that time in the draft. My only take on spending a 3rd on a kicker is that he better be great ... but that doesn't matter after the active discussion of that draft is in the past, just like this year we have a 2nd spent on Collins and the conversation is that he better be more than just a 2 down lineman for a 2nd round pick ... but 3 years from now if he's struggling where he was picked doesn't matter to his next game.

Him being a kicker in the third matters. absolutely has impact. You dont take a kicker in the third unless he is elite and a slam dunk.

Unfortunately, no such thing. All indications were that he was. There have been other kickers drafted as high or higher that failed spectacularly.
Also, obviously, numerous u drafted that succeeded.

Don't we wish that. there were guaranteed slam dunks. This whole Drafting thing would be soooo much easier.

It mattered, but it's the past. We can't go back and not draft him. There is nothing today that is effected by where he was drafted other than how some fans talk about him.

What about in the 4th? Cause he was 99th overall.

Or do you not take a kicker in the 4th round either?

That high? Only kicker I can think of that busted that high is Aguayo who was the most accurate kicker in ncca history at the time.
-"Jake Moody drilled his lone field goal attempt from about 50 yards."

This is the biggest issue with fans in regard to the draft. Our teams evaluation of a player in no way shape or form speaks to that players level of competence at their position. You should have no more expectations for Moody than steady improvement. He didn't ask to be drafted where he was and he didn't evaluate himself as the best kicker in the draft, John Lynch and the scouting dept did. Holding their draft position against a player has never made a lick of sense to me and our fans are especially bad about it imo.

Hehe ... Brian Jennings convinced 4 49ers head coaches he never needed to practice, and he was so good at his job he was one of the highest paid long snappers in the NFL.

Mental training. That's his biggest weakness
Oh boy
He needs to go.
