At this point he would need to be perfect for the fans to accept him. He is burned in sf. The best thing for him and the team is to move on. Fair? Probably not, but it's the truth.

Look at Ray Wersching's hit rate early in his career. He's just a kicker, people will eventually forget/forgive if he's great.

Fans will always remember a missed kick that could have won the game more than they remember all the kicks that were made. They don't put nearly as much blame on a receiver that drops a pass at a crucial moment of a lineman that whiffs on a block. Kickers are out there front and center and often at the end of the game. That spotlight shines bright so any mistake is magnified. They're the only player on the team that some fans expect to be perfect.

Disagree. Nedney is probably my favorite kicker in recent history, and when he missed it was nowhere near as big of a deal. Even Gould, Akers, Dawson missed and were much easier to forgive. Main differences being where dude was drafted and the fact he seems to miss in the biggest moments.

The Raiders drafted Sea Bass in the first round and people thought they were crazy. They drafted Ray Guy (a punter) in the first round and people thought the Raiders were crazy. Both players ended up being very good.
Moody was considered one of the top 2 kickers coming out of college so the 49ers took him. He was pretty goood in his first year and then he got injured early last season. He wasn't the same afterward. They're giving him anothe rshot to see if he can overcome the yips and be the kicker he was. If not they can pick up the phone and call someone else.
Moody isn't going to be the difference for whether this team makes the playoffs or not. The health of returning players and the improvement on the D line are the big issues. Also whether the O line can make some improvement in pass protection. If all those things fall in line and the Niners get back to scoring in the red zone like they did in 2023 then Moody is just a side attraction.

Idk anytime we draft a LB in the mid round they always ball out Bowman, Borland, Warner, Dre, Winters is a great cover LB that some think is going to pop off this season...

You could just as easily say the FO puts too much emphasis on where a player is drafted. Again, Moody has been more likely to miss kicks when the pressure is higher, and had he just been a FA who they signed, they'd have already parted ways. I don't care where he was drafted, just want him to make the kicks when needed.

How many tackles hace DBs and LBs missed that went for big yards? The kicker is out there al, alone with thge spotlight on him. Not the case wth other players. If they screw up there'sanother play coming right away. The kicker walks off the field and has to sit and think about it until he gets another shot. I'm not saying Moody is great but fans act like they should never miss. Show me one kicker that never missed a crucial kick.
If Joseph or one of the other kickers off the street that some of you think are so great actually came in a substantially outkicked Moody then he would be gone. That's not the case. It was basically even in practice and we all know that kicks in practice don't mean much. Moody has a stong leg and they're just giving him another shot. He'll be gone if he screws up early.
Score TDs and they won't need to worry about it.

To be replaced by who? It's not like there is a stud kicker out there just waiting for a call.

Funny thing about mentioning DBs and LBs ... casual fans will say "that LB got 13 tackles! They were dominant!" without noticing that those tackles were after the opponent gained 97 yards on those 13 plays. Stats for kickers are entirely black and white to casual fans ... they have no way to hide a bad day.

I get nervous every time this guy even kicks an XP. Meanwhile, Jacksonville's kicker just casually hit a 70 yard FG in a preseason game.
I wonder if he was also drafted in the 3rd round.

Why are people obsessed with where he was picked? It doesn't matter any more. Little was a 6th round pick and as a rookie was one of the best kickers in the NFL.
Another thing that I hadn't thought about was that Moody didn't have a good coach until this year, so much like the hope Saleh brings to the defense Boyer brings to Special Teams.
What keeps coming back to me on Moody is this. Who is out there that is clearly better? Would spending another draft pick at K have guaranteed an improvement at K? The answers are: There is nobody clearly better in free agency, and spending a draft pick would have made people even more angry and assured nothing as far as late game field goal accuracy.
of note:
There were 0 kickers drafted this year
The top kicking prospect Ryan Fitzgerald signed as a UDFA for the Panthers and has been so bad they are looking at Greg Joseph who is nothing special.
