As much as I like seeing CMC in there - and he's tough as nails - hoping his usage is scaled back more here and there as still a long ways to go.

Mix in Mason & Mitchell a little more. Not sure what's up w/ Mason...he looks good when he's in there as a thumping, change-of-pace type of back that can take advantage of a tired defense in the 2nd Half. Maybe he's just not good enough with the other areas of RB responsibilities. Would be great if he and Mitchell could take at least a little more of the load off of CMC as the season continues.

I think a lot of it had to do with his pursuit of the record and hope now that it's over we'll see a bit less of him until the playoffs.

I wouldn't count on it.

This. Kyle seems to coach every game as if it's the Super Bowl. Just doesn't seem as if he's thinking about long term longevity, use rate, etc. I'm sure there is a coach or coaches in charge of this, they need to be louder lol.
The above videos are auto-populated by an affiliate.
Baldy is wrong, Emmitt Smith had 6 years in a row with a avg of over 400 touches and played a long career.I will take CMC for 3 years with a lot of touches and Super Bowl instead of keeping him around a lot years because we are afraid to use him. Why is it that CMC is the only player in the NFL talking heads or fans complain that he has to many touches ? Their are other RB who get a lot of touches but you never hear they don't need the ball.I think we let the games decide if he needs less touches. We have to take it 1 game at a time because if we don't get home field advantage over the Eagles , I think they will have the upper hand again to the Super Bowl.
You just know if Kyle starts limiting CMC's touches there is going to be fans who say "Where was CMC" when a drives stalls. Or god forbid if the Niners lose a game because CMC wasn't in the game on a particular drive. At the end of the day Kyle is trying to win football games and he is going to use his best players. This is not like Hockey,Baseball, and Basketball where you get to play 80+ games and you can afford to rest players throughout the season. In Football every game is crucial until you clinch a playoff spot and then also crucial in fighting for seeding.
So CMC is the only player we have a concern for his health. I don't think Trent Williams should have played on his ankle but we needed him and took the risk with him playing.

yeah but he also wasn't as involved in the passing game like CMC and other RB's are now

the team really wants that first-round bye and to play through Levi stadium. We arent giving him 20 rush attempts a game which is where i would consider that the risk of over usage. Hes at 17 rush attempts/game which i think is a good amount

Also i wouldn't really count pass as those typically don't lead to bigger hits and wear/tear

The other thing to consider in 'touches" is that CMC is a terrific blocker and he blocks as hard as he gets hit on his carries. So altho it isn't the same as a carry, touches really should be considered in what kind of beating he takes. Like others, i worry that Kyle is going thru McCaffs touches faster than many of us would like to see.

Yup. He's amazing, but they need to put the other guys in more. Especially if we are ahead, but I totally understood last week.
I'm sorry, but Shanny has to get other RB's involved. If Shanny don't trust other running backs on the team, so much so that he'd rather use Deebo as a RB more than Mitchel or Mason, then they don't need to be on the roster. There's no need to have players on the roster that can't execute the offence the way Shanny wants. CMC won't be available for the playoffs at this rate of usage.

Yeah, Kyle needs to get over it, whatever "it" is. Mitchell just doesn't look like the same guy and Mason has proven he can be a positive yardage guy on every run he gets.
It's been pointed out that Mason might now be up to the task of his blocking assignments but he's not going to get any better if he doesn't get on the field.
At this rate CMC will be burnt out or hurt by the time playoffs start.
cmc is unfortunately the sacrificial lamb for the almighty SB ring

Emmitt caught over 500 passes in his career , To me it's not the amount of touches but what kind of touches power ,dive, counter or asking him to block 300 lbs D Line is going to take a bigger wear then catching passes as a WR or running toss or sweeps do. We didn't trade 4 Draft Picks and have the highest paid RB in the league to worry if he has to many touches.

I can understand the blocking thing. For Shann, having Mason in the game makes it easier for the defense to diagnose the offence. But again, if he's that bad at blocking then he shouldn't be on the roster. Shanny wants to be able to run the same things regardless of who's. Now as a coach myself I know that's a bit of a pipe dream.

Either get rid of backs that can't block or Shanny will need to develop packages for when CMC isn't on the field. Either way, CMC cannot hold up with this rate of usage.

What makes you think he can't hold up ?When he got hurt at Carolina it wasn't because of touches and Carolina even said he would have played the last 3 games that year if they were in the playoffs hunt but they held him out because they were out of the playoffs. If we Dont get get home field advantage it want matter anyway , and their is 4 games left on our sch Eagles, Seahawks twice and Ravens were he will probably need 25 touches for us to win those games that we need to win for seeding purposes.
