This team.

The other thing you aren't factoring in is how the UDFA process works.

The 49ers had the final pick. The negotiations with likely UDFAs happens in rounds 6/7 - it doesn't just start after the last pick.

So the 49ers would have already commenced UDFA negotiations with their key targets before their 7th round pick.

West went to a school the 49ers are very close to (Arizona State - Herm Edwards) and so it could very well be the 49ers knew they would be able to get West as a UDFA but potentially they wouldn't be able to get Purdy unless they drafted him. Bear in mind the 49ers had the final pick so when the 49ers are on the clock there is no way another team could draft West - they would only be able to get him as an UDFA.

ASSUMPTION... we once believe that LeGarrett Blount was going to sign w/us.. and that other ALL PRO RB out of Tennessee... just can't remember the name..

but hey, it is what it is... Glad we have West... and that's also because Herm I believe is the godfather of Lynch's son... or is it the other way around..
I think I'd feel just as good about Purdy having to start as I would about Sudfeld starting.

I see him as a potential future cheap backup QB ala Nick Mullens.

That's how I see Purdy, as a cheap backup QB for the 49ers, how many final picks in the draft actually make the 53-man roster? They usually end up on the practice squad.

Agree, from a cap situation, if he makes the team, it will definitely help our cap's bottom line. My optimistic hope is that we can trade him later for draft picks a la Elvis Grbac/Steve Bono.

I really wish we never gave Sudfeld $2M fully GTD, now if Purdy outplays him, does Kyle/John trade Sudfeld for a pick, save $2M in cap room? idk.

Do you remember if we did this prior to learning about Jimmy's surgery?

Prior to Jimmy's surgery, from my understanding, they, I think, assumed Jimmy would be traded.

It was prior to the surgery and they assumed correctly until Jimmy dropped the bomb on them. We lost at least a third rounder

Well that explains it for me. Agree with both

Does Poe have potential at center?

I was thinking the same thing.

He seems like he would be a natural fit at center

I think he's better suited at guard but with his shorter arms who knows. He has ridiculous measurables (better than Shaq Mason) and his film backed it up. I hope nobody steals him from our practice squad

I think he's too short to be effective at center.

Why do you have to be tall to play center?

He'll get engulfed by D-linemen.

Have a weird feeling that Mason could very well be the next UDFA RB success story. Great match between skillset and scheme.

So far so good.
