This is awesome! I love the way he Carries himself and how humble is. These interviews are always fun when it's current/recently retired players.
couldn't be happier we landed this guy.

also cool that Trey was such a big help to him, he's always seemed like a great teammate

Great interview, great composure despite being surprised Jimmy was going to be out more than one series. He loves Kyle's offense. I can't wait to see him 💯% and slicing and dicing NFL defenses. 2nd year is the time for the biggest improvement in a typical NFL career, I'm just imagining how good Brock will be in his 2nd year under Kyle.😳😳😳

People generally make the 2nd year leap when they're healthy during the off-season. Brock might get better at throwing left-handed, but how much progress can he really make this offseason when he might miss almost the entire thing? We also can't discount the amount of time Brock is spending on rehabbing the elbow that could normally be spent working on other things.

He is limited but he's talked a lot about the things he's working on. Not everything is done out on the field throwing the ball. He's worked on his footwork, studying concepts, shifts, footwork timing, defenses etc.

also you're acting like he won't throw the ball at all until sept. He will be throwing for 6-7 weeks by the time training camp even starts. It isn't like his arm will be 30% strength by the time training camp starts. Idk where he will be but he will be more than half way through ramp up period - usually the last 20% or so is what takes the longest. So, based on the things I've read - his arm will be approx 80% (may be a tad optimistic but not far fetched) when camp starts. He will continue the ramp up and should be able to participate in training camp in full 11-11 in the last 2-4 weeks at least. He will most likely be participating in camp on limited capacities before that. They'll just have to closely Monitor his arm and make sure he isn't over doing it. Also, if his arm is stronger than before, like he's suggested himself it may be, 80-85% may be what we know as his 100% last year - or really close to it.

plus, studying and reviewing the film on his game experiences etc can help him improve.

overall, yes he will be somewhat limited but it isn't like he will be on the couch until September.

AGree, and - just assuming last year - Brock knows somewhere between 50% and 80% of the Kyle offense, now he can concentrate on the missing 20%-50% that he doesn't know so that, from a mental standpoint, he'll know 100% of the Kyle offense this year. Also, his cardio could be better than last year since he was focused on making the draft versus focusing on his actual craft of playing QB. So from a physical standpoint and mental standpoint, I can see him being better than last year despite the time spent rehabbing the arm.

I love how the guy can't throw but is still focused on improving what he can. Dude Is a football nerd and I love it.

You'd think that every player is but I think most people would be surprised at how a lot of players don't study the game or it's history - outside of what's in their job description. There's a reason why Purdy was so ready and composed

Rudy Ruttiger is a classic example of hustle beating talent if talent doesn't hustle.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Ruettiger

In the John Lynch interview, he said Kyle and him are better now in evaluating spirit and passion for the game than before. Actually they are saying that is what they are most focused on more than talent.
I do think that when we've missed it's been more that spirit part than it has been the talent. The talent we're pretty good at identifying, I think it's probably the spirit. We spend a lot of our focus on trying to learn as much as possible and that's where the scouts come in, you really have to rely on the scouts to get to know these players over a course of time.
https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/168461-transcript-everything-49ers-john-lynch-pre-draft-press-conference/
*I just want to preface that everything below is my belief and I'm not stating it as fact, Although I do believe it to be true.

Yeah, I've always liked that saying "hard beats talent when talent doesn't work hard". It's very true.

something that annoys me is everyone likes to say That X player "has so much talent! Such a high ceiling". EVERYONE in the nfl has a bunch of talent. Lol that's why they're there. EVERY qb is a smart guy, you have to be.
none of that matters much if they don't have the intangible variables that you can't measure, it's what makes it so hard to find the right players and top notch qbs. They're rare for a reason.

Or when people try to evaluate the QB position the same way you'd evaluate the WR/CB position. The WR/CB are dependent on size/speed/athleticism etc. having it makes a material difference in someone's performances or potential to perform. The whole "you can't teach size" works for those kind of skill positions because it helps a lot while playing the position.
size/speed help when you're playing qb but it's incremental unless you're a super freak like Lamar/Vick. You really just have to be "good enough". The way you see the game and process it is much more important. You also can't be thinking too much out there. It needs to be instinctual. you can learn anything but that doesn't mean it's natural to you or that you can do it at a high level. Not everyone can just learn how to be a world class scientist or a world class mathematician - it's something in your gene pool that helps you understand it quicker and better than most. Its a little naive to think anyone can be world class at anything they want to be just by Learning something. You can learn anything but doesn't mean you'll be special at it. Lol some people are wired different at things than others, doesn't mean anyone is dumb or useless - just different. We are all different from each other.

i can go learn how to be a carpenter or sculptor - I can probably get really good at it, but be one of the best in the world.? Unlikely lol very unlikely.

Have you read Lynch's comments about Purdy from yesterday? He sounded like the rehab is going as well as it can be, which gives me hope he may be ahead of schedule. As long as he gets properly cleared to throw, it's just a matter of getting his arm stronger and the risk of a setback is lower.
i was super bummed out when this injury first happened and am just glad it's going great.

brock throwing left handed. Lmao man's preparing for anything.
Imagine him running to his left and just changes hands and chucks it with his left. Would be hilarious

I could see Purdy using his off arm in a scramble, shovel pass, get the ball to CMC kind of play. I broke both bones in my dominant arm when I was younger; learned to write, eat, etc with left hand - for two months. I got fairly proficient with my left hand and to this day I will unconsciously use it instead of the right sometimes.

Thats pretty cool! I didn't break any bones but when I was a teenager, I started doing all sorts of stuff with my left hand like throwing, writing, etc just because it annoyed me
How bad I was at it all with my left, I can still do it all today pretty well. Not as well as my right hand, obviously, but efficiently.

lmao btw, I know it's a typo but "unconsciously" had me cracking up. Lmaoo just using your left while
your knocked out. Just picturing that has me cracking up.

also, didn't mahommes do something crazy like that? I forget who it was but I remember a badass shovel pass under duress by a qb. I'm pretty sure it was mahommes. Just incredible.

We know what you were learning to do with your left hand as a teenager...

.
Also Mahomes yes. Did throw left handed. Purdy plays a lot like Mahomes. Just doesn't have the same arm.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5QTD7yFBj9Q

Hahaha I knew this would be coming. .. and you're absolutely right… well more so left 😏 hahaha

mahommes is just incredible. I don't think anyone in the league is in his Caliber. He could retire right now and would be first ballot hall of fame

Agreed. And that pisses me off every time I think about it. He literally fell into our lap. Then we traded out of two and he fell into our lap again.

Fortunately we have a poor man's Mahomes in Brock, which means we have a guy who has the potential to be top 10.

Yeah, this is why I think Cousins is our true arch nemesis hahaha because the reason we didn't take a QB was cause Kyle planned to get cousins in FA. I hate him. Lol

I think Brock can easily be a top 10 guy, I genuinely believe he can be a top 5 guy. It just won't be as sexy lookin as the way Mahommes does it, but I really believe he has all the ability necessary to lead us to a super bowl convincingly.

Rudy? That guy is the poster child for participation trophies. Brock actually has some physical gifts, such as adequate nimbleness, elite arm angle abilities, solid accuracy, quality field vision, very good improvisation, etc. I guess you'll call some of those mental gifts, but to me they aren't things you can really develop that much, so I consider them talents.

He just needs to indisputably be their guy now and for the foreseeable future.

I agree with this. This is the threshold for a team. We don't have one locked in yet.

Yeah, that's a good way to say it. I don't think We have had a franchise qb since Steve young. I'm really hoping Purdy is that guy, he's got off to a great start (minus the injury).

he's the first qb, in my opinion, where I didn't see any faults in his game that were concerning or alarming. He obviously has things he needs to improve on, but not a big worry. First time I've felt very confident each time we had the ball where he could pull off anything and didn't need everything perfect in order to move the ball.

i just hope it wasn't a fluke, since it was only 8 games. A great 8 games though. I've never been this excited about a qb.
I am one of those on here who's not afraid to be optimistic ("It's better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all." --Tennyson). Brock is the current leading candidate to be our FQB, but he's got to show up and keep on showing up. He's not a big guy, but he moves well, which speaks favorably to staying healthy going forward. He needs to develop that spidey sense about keeping in one piece that our QBs seem to be lacking.

The hesi steps, the no looks passes, the extended plays, etc. There's definitely some pizzazz to Brock's game.

I think Brock can easily be a top 10 guy, I genuinely believe he can be a top 5 guy. It just won't be as sexy lookin as the way Mahommes does it, but I really believe he has all the ability necessary to lead us to a super bowl convincingly.

I think it can be pretty sexy.

Trey couldn't make that play in his wildest dreams.

True. That play was insane.

To me, the definition of a franchise quarterback is very simple. Its when a franchise has an incumbent QB that there is zero doubt that he is the QB for the forseeable future. Zero doubt he is the guy now, and will be the guy, and there are no plans to even look at another possibility. He doesnt need to have taken you to a championship or a title.

I agree, I'm almost always optimistic - people take some of my takes as negative just because I think its important to hold players accountable for where they need improvement. All I'm doing is giving my honest assessment, I still hope they prove me wrong and ball.

To your point about Brock continually earning the spot, I agree as well. I feel like his mindset is great for that. He seems to want to do right but his teammates and coaches, while being humble and competitive. The way he Carrie's himself is ideal, imo.

im very optimistic he is going to continue growing and being our guy! Will be great, especially on that contract! 😍😍

brock throwing left handed.

I love that at that point in the game he still had that "step on their throat" mindset.

this is the stuff that's "special". Not everyone can do that. That's elite caliber traits. Orgasmic.

yeah, he may of taken an unnecessary hit, but true competitors don't think that way. You play to win, not to not lose. I love it. Bummer Aiyuk dropped it but wow. Incredible play. Especially in the playoffs
