Its less about not giving him a chance and more about wanting to win and not go through growing pains that are inevitable with a guy who hasn't played more than 20 football games since high school. Deshaun Watson was an MVP caliber QB, he missed a season and a half and looked like ass after coming back to the Browns this season.

If this was a 7-10 team, sure, go ahead and let him take his lumps, let him make the mistakes and if they finish 8-9 or 9-8, no biggie.

However this should be a team competing for a SB next season and if Shanahan thinks Lance can be that guy to keep up the same level of play as Purdy, great, but if not, they need to keep their options open.

Well guess what, that was always gonna be the thing when they spent 3 1sts for any QB in a draft.

It doesn't matter what fans think, that was always gonna be part of the process and the people making the decision knew that. Kyle and Co. surly didn't think SF was gonna blow when they named Lance the starter this yr. They had plans to win games all the same.

we're acting like this roster needs an elite QB to win games and we've all seen that's not the case. They do need better QB play to win it all and no one knows if Lance will be that until he plays.

That is good to know.

Yeah but what direction was he throwing, backwards or sideways?

No decision has been made as to whether they repair or replace the UCL. It sounds like they're leaning toward repairing it which would be 5-6 months for complete recovery. That would be right around the start of training camp. If they decode to do a complete replacement (TJ) then it's more like a year. I don't know which procedure has the best long term outcome but I do know that a lot of pitchers that had the TJ replacement were stronger afterward.

I don't think anyone had the expectation in year 3 the 49ers would not know what they had in Trey but a 7th round QB would be ready to put half the QBs in the NFL on the bench.

This is kind of a gift wrapped situation on the Trey front.....

To me this is a non-issue

A. Brock is ready by TC

or

B. Trey gets run time....you get to see what he can and can't do....He either looks like a Franchise QB and the 49ers don't look back....or.... if he falters running the offense, there is absolutely ZERO fear of yanking him for Brock once he is healthy.

If Trey can't hold off a 7th round pick in year 3 of his career....well.... I don't know what to say .... Thank goodness for Brock.

He can't wait too long to decide. If it's the repair, that puts him around August to be ready to play again.
Why are some articles saying he injured his shoulder.? The article above says it and I saw another one that also said it. UCL is an elbow injury, not the shoulder. David Bonilla usually knows his stuff.

It's the elbow, there's no UCL in the shoulder.

Yeah, my guess of the electric shock feeling was the ulnar nerve. I have had that one aggravated before. Felt 'shocks' down my arm/slight weakness and weird sensation/pain in my elbow. Completely different injury but location wise it made sense. What concerns me also is the possibility of permanent nerve damage here because of the numbness he was experiencing. Not sure if it's from that or the tear. I would think that the numbness in the hand would be from the ulnar being "stretched" the way it was. Maybe it was inflammation of that nerve that caused the numbness and feeling can eventually come back. Guess a dr would know but kinda need to be able to feel a football if you are a qb. Don't wanna guess too much about things though.

If he has nerve damage, he's f**ked.

I can feel the anguish in Phoenix's words as I read them. The man is starved for a championship. The guy is a life-long Suns, and A's fan so he knows what it's like to come close but not get over the hump.

And I believe Ms. 85 is a Giants/Eagles fan(?), so Sunday must've been rough for him also.

Yeah well when I watched that thing on Dustin May, he said feeling came back after the surgery so idk.

Let's hope.
Im heard that the repair surgery has only been done once on a QB. That was on Mullens. Some people (former baseball players) have come on KNBR and said that with a complete tear it's better to do a total replacement. Apparently it's cleaner and has less possibility of complications during healing. If that's true then maybe it would be better to bite the bullet and do it right. Brock is young and has his entire future in front of him. I would hate to see them try to rush him back with a shortcut procedure that ends up needing to be redone later.

Terrible news for Brock and the 49ers. Was refreshing Twitter all morning and finally gave up around 11ish and told myself I'm not getting worked up about it - he's gonna be ok - a few weeks and he'll be back. This sucks - same feeling I had when Lance went down in week 2.

How can we possibly have such terrible luck with keeping our QBs upright.

Well, don't leave a back up tight end to block Hassan Riddick, maybe?

What could possibly go wrong?

I dunno the removal of Playactoin from the west coast offense?

I think it was supposed to be MM and the TE to block Reddick on that play. For some reason MM shifted over and blocked no one.

Kid didn't play much of anything year 1. Coaches choice because they wanted to win right off the bat (I said he's gotta play to develop). All but lost season. Year 2 he plays what 4 and half QRs of football and then is out for the year? Lost season year two.

people then claim he stinks and we can't win with him…based off what? Nothing really.

who said he can't hold off Brock? Brock looked awful in camp this yr. Tons of INTs. My point is stop tossing out b******t takes on a very very young player that hasn't even had the time to learn and develop…by actually playing football.

For reference:

And in relation to that main nerve...
