Himself meaning a backup QB lol. Kyle's version of Jimmy was we NEED to run the ball 40+ times in order to win and keep it out of his hands

True but that OL of his....Purdy has never had anything close to it. So it kinda balances out imo

The line may be a little better but Allen doesn't have good WRs. The Niners have much better receivers including TE. Even with the good O line Allen was forced to move lot because nobody was open downfield.

A lot better OL and as we all know, if you give average wrs enough time they do get open. Even the best cbs say that. However, Purdy and Allen are 2 of the best at extending plays. With Purdy and the usual horrible pass pro, the wrs and TE may not get open by the time pressure is applied. Like all of last year

I have been picking that matchup for the last 3 years. If both teams aren't decimated with injuries, that's the SB matchup this year

Is there an objective ranking that puts our OL in the 'horrible pass pro' category for last season, or any other that Purdy has been the starter? I'm not a big fan of PFF, but they had our line as a top 5 overall unit last year as an example.

Purdy-Allen comparisons aside, I think offensive line is probably the aspect of our team where the fans are most detached from reality and the rest of the teams around the league.

People just seem to remember the bad games/plays. Mckivitz can have 60 plays, and 59 of them are good or better, but people here will just reference the 1 terrible rep he had.

The OLine last year was good, when it was healthy. Much of the year it wasn't. The OLine took a jump this year (if the first game is any indication). I think a big part of it is Raheem and his DLine stunts and dogs. It seems that the OLine is handling these types of odd multi-front defenses better. That will help Purdy a lot this year.

I totally agree, we aren't off to a good start injury wise but we still have our top weapons. Just please stay healthy.

One of the main reasons Kyle went and drafted Trey was Jimmy's durability issues, not so much his QB skills. Brock's a lot better than Jimmy in the QB skill area.

One of the reasons Brock is not considered top five in a lot of non-49er fans eyes is that he's never *won* a Superbowl. One of the reasons Joe is considered legendary is because he won four 🏆's.

So win/loss percentage is a valid guage of a QB's skills, especially at the highest levels of competition.

SB games. That is something that gets little attention. He was the best in the biggest games.

Amazing. Yes, he was Joe Cool. I remember seeing him play live in '89, '90 and it was like the higher the pressure, the more you trusted him.

So f**king true. I won't even say his name in a thread that is comparing good qbs to elite qbs. He is neither. The dude is and always was a back up. So glad we have purdy and he is back where he belongs. On the bench or holding a clipboard

We owned the Bengals under Joe, the way Mahomes owns us in Superbowls, unfortunately. Still, I think Purdy is closer to Joe in cerebral style of play and accuracy, but I have to say Purdy's escapabilities remind me a lot of Steve.

Would Kyle choose Purdy or Allen if he had the chance? Considering Kyle Drafted Kurtis, who in my eyes, is a bit of a lesser Fernando Mendoza clone - I'd say Kyle would choose Allen. Also, Mac Jones reminds me a bit of Kyle's preferred QB stereotype. A big immobile pocket passer that will stand in the pocket and deliver the pass.

I say this because Kyle drafted a very Allen like player in Trey Lance year before Brock, and I think John was more instrumental in getting Brock than Kyle. Kyle, I think, still likes that accurate but immobile passer. Although Kurtis showed a lot of mobility for a big man in preseason and he plays a lot like Fernando Mendoza.

John liked Mahomes, so I think John would choose Purdy (versus Allen).
