Since people seem to being using Brock's struggles against Carolina as an excuse to bash Jimmy, I thought I'd let Matt Stafford weigh in on the topic.
"Stafford was asked after the Rams' win over Tampa Bay about where his joy and positivity come from, naming Garoppolo as the catalyst for their success after he steered the ship during training camp and for a large portion of preseason."
"I thought what (QB) Jimmy (Garoppolo) did in training camp with our group was awesome and the way he kept those guys rolling and he played great and gave us that good momentum going into it, and then I just picked up where he left off, so I got to give him a ton of credit for what he was able to do. And when you're without something like that and then you get the chance to go back and do it, it sure is a whole lot of fun and obviously it's a lot of fun winning ball games and helping other guys get in the end zone."
Jimmy had his limitations as a QB but the things that he accomplished with the team shouldn't be underestimated. Kittle said at his presser after the last game that Brock and Jimmy were the best QBs he's played with. Granted that might represent a small sample size, but I'm assuming it includes his HS and College QBs as well as guys like Lance and Hoyer, who I think George was here for.
Arik Armstead was asked once why the locker room supported him so much and he said that before Jimmy came along, his (Armstead's) career with the Niners had been one of constant losing and so the team was glad to finally have a QB who could help them win games. Jimmy's tragedy with the 49ers was that he missed that throw to Sanders, and the majority of the posters in this forum never forgave him for it. Though oddly enough, they seem to think Kaepernick throwing an interception at the end of the game against Baltimore was just a "bad break". Go figure.
He threw an interception in the 1st half. You might be mixing up this game with the Seattle matchup in the NFCCG.
You're right. But the broader point is that Kaepernick had it first and goal at the seven I think, down by four and had that incompletion to Crabtree, but that failure, the first Super Bowl loss in 49er history by the way, didn't seem to result in anywhere near the same kind of scathing condemnation that Jimmy got. Just saying.
