QB Brock Purdy Thread

As far as expectations go, I don't think people were criticizing Brock any less when he was making peanuts last year.

And he was being criticized because of the inconsistency over the course of a full season. Again this isn't a one off game where you point to an injury that he himself said wasn't an issue…like others have said no one was talking about the injury being a problem last week.

how about we have some accountability for our QB? Instead of excuse after excuse. That s**t is so nauseating.

One would think you should be improving the more football you play and I'm not sure we can safely say that with Brock right now. His expectations are higher given the salary and that shouldn't be some debatable thing.

This. Our fans have been comically reluctant to criticize QBs, yet they have no problem bashing other players when they screw up. Remember the Jimmy G fans yelling "he just wins, what more do you want" while the rest of us could see with our own eyes that he was not it.

i have more hope for Brock than I did for JG, but he is not trending in a good direction. His inability to protect the football are not a 1 or 2 game issue, they have been happening since last year.

Some fans would rather pretend that's not the case because it makes them uncomfortable to accept the possibility that we may not have our franchise QB yet. They like to live in this made up world where the team is "set" at the QB position, and any struggles are due to the OL, receivers, defense, coaching, bad luck, great opponent, etc.

I don't think defending the franchise QB from excessive or overly fatalistic criticism could ever be trolling. Some criticism is warranted, no player is 100% perfect. However, Purdy succeeding is undeniably the best foreseeable outcome for the franchise, so it's something we should all be rooting for as fans. Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of people here would like to see him fail just to win an internet argument or because they've become so jaded as fans that they only get joy from misery.

I will always root for the best outcome for the team.

We all want Brock to be the next Montana, there isn't a single person that wants him to fail and if that's your whole defense on the inconsistency of Brock, well you clearly can't be objective about him.

He's got 23 INTs in 21 games, I don't think you can't say he's improved since 2023. Those are all things that are concerning, that doesn't mean he can't get back to playing like that, but we as fans should be able to have an honest debate on Brock and where things are at.

I can't see any reason to rationally argue this. I know he's Kyle's boy, but hoping Kyle tears into him during film study. This HAS to stop.

Lol there is nobody excusing Brock's play because he just won. Everybody is saying he needs to be better. Some of us just aren't being hard enough on him, and that's a big problem lol

The concerning thing to me, is the lack of velocity on passes over 15 yards. I'm sure others have already noticed this and maybe it's always been this way, but something I noticed yesterday.

Of course he needs to do a better job of taking care of the ball. He needs to understand that with our current WR corps, he's better off checking down to CMC or going to Kittle on every play. He needs to realize that he doesn't have a WR like Aiyuk out there anymore.

Purdy has not denied the fact he needs to improve.

By the same token, a strong chemistry has to exist between QB and receivers. I don't think most fans understand how critical that is. When BA was rolling in 2023, the combo was just automatic. That never happened again in 2024, and it showed. Purdy was always throwing to guys that were not close to the relationship Brock had with Aiyuk.

This year, the lack of PT that Purdy has had with his receivers is having the same impact as last year. To make matters worse, Pearsall is still not 100% from his injury. He may be on the field but he isn't where he was toward the end of last year.

It is all just a snowball rolling downhill that will take time to get back on the same page where Purdy is throwing with the same anticipation timing he has had in the past, not the slight hesitation he had last night.

He will get there but it will take some time.

Last night Purdy said he needs to drive the ball down the field better. He was hesitating instead of driving the ball to a spot like he has done in the past.

Last night he had the correct read but poor execution on two throws. On the third, it was a good throw but the opposite side CB made an unpredictable play that came out of nowhere. No QB would have made that read. ...but I think we all heard that from Troy Aikman.

He's making too much money now, walking into the building like a billboard, to throw 3 picks against the Panthers. He's gotta get better, but unfortunately he's on the same track as JG. Every QB goes through slumps, though. He can recover. If he starts playing well into the stretch run all will be forgiven. But he's been making the same mistakes for a while now.

Also, he's just not good on Monday night. I don't know his stats, but he throws a lot of picks on Monday night. Sunday night hes been fine, but Monday is just bad. That Colts game is frightening.

Chemistry? He's been playing with Ricky all through camp and had no problem tossing him the ball week one. He's had BA for the first 7 weeks of the season. He's been with Kittle and JJ since day 1.

a good QB makes players around him better imo. Throwing an inaccurate ball is on the QB.

My god James Winston just threw for 366 yards with 2TDs an a INT. Flacco got traded mid week and in his first two games in Cinci had 600 yards and 5 TDs.

Your are conflating facts and seasons.

Yes, Purdy had training camp with Pearsall but that was two months ago and they have had very little healthy time together. Pearsall still does not appear to have the crispness he had at the beginning of the season. Last year, Aiyuk never showed the same spark he had in 2023.

No, chemistry is not all of it but it does play an important role whether some people will recognize it or admit it or not.

Yes, Purdy said his accuracy was to blame. What he didn't say was that he was hesitating on his reads, but it looked obvious.

A billboard? Billboard for what? Bass Pro Shop?

He is still wearing the same gear he wore last year, although Toyota did give him a jacket.
