QB Brock Purdy Thread

II don't know if the Niners can make the playoffs with all the injuries they have. I certainly can't see them going very far without their 2 best defensive players. No matter what happens I can see Mac Jones getting the Les Eshmont award this year.

He steped in and has played as well as can be expected. Probably bettter than most fans thought he could. He's got injuries to both knees and had some issues with his side that kept him out of practice. He hobbles on and off the field but still makes it out there for every snap. He's probably hurting a lot more than he lets on. That shot of him sitting on the sideline with a bloody nose and the trainer working on his leg tells it all. He's one tough SOB. Don't think the players can't see it.
The way this season is going with so many key players getting injured the prospect of making a real run at the SB is very slim. For that reason I would consider shutting Brock down for the rest of the year.

Everything I hear about turf toe and the way it can linger worries me. It can be a career ending injury if not given enough time to heal. Brock's big paydays start next season and if they really feel he's their future they need to be cautious. There's no reason to risk losing him for all or part of next season if he comes back too soon and injures that toe even more. Crazy that one of the smallest parts of the human body can be that debilitating but it's a very serious injury.

With Mac playing as well as he is, there is no reason to push Purdy back into action. It is an injury that takes a long time to heal.

Mac is holding the fort down. Offense isn't the problem and maybe with some upgrades on returning players we can continue to make progress. The defense is too decimated unfortunately. I agree. Probably best to shut Brock down this year. Also Mac is getting more and more comfortable as the year progresses. No point with messing with his mojo, getting Brock back for only a handful of games before he reinjures that toe, then ask Mac to come back in an ball out.

What would you say IS the problem then? Prior to this weekend, we were averaging right around 20 points per game, which would put us in the bottom 7 in all of football.

Again, I have been happy with Mac Jones the backup, as he has steadied the ship and has kept the season alive. The previous 5 games before this Giants game, he had 5 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and a fumble. He has had 2 great games (his first and last start). Everything in between has been a lot of meh. Now, its not entirely his fault. But people need to stop acting like he is lighting the league on fire. He is playing exactly how everyone would want their 2nd string QB to play.

We should stick with Mac. He has a better arm and is more of a pocket passer. He doesn't do all the backyard football play like Purdy, which is fine with me. I'd rather have him sit in the pocket and read and throw.

I don't think we'd be in this position if Purdy was playing.

Lol do ppl have short term memory regarding Purdy's performance? Agree with other poster, probably 7-2 if healthy Purdy..with this soft of a schedule. I love Mac though, we got lucky, he's fun to watch.

Last year he took this team to 6-11 with a limited surrounding cast like what we're fielding this year.

That's exactly it. People are prisoners of the moment and the latest is Mac dicing up the Giants defense...with a ton of injuries on their backend.

The Houston game is quickly forgotten.

And of course the latest game people remember from Brock is the Jags game where he was clearly not playing at his own level. Fact is when Brock was healthy he was absolutely dealing vs a Seahawks defense that has been a problem for virtually every QB they've faced outside of Baker Mayfield, though they had a few guys out for that game.

Houston was not on Mac. He played well enough to win the game. The Oline was putrid and the Defense was trash

I didn't say it was on Mac. I said as much after the game. However he clearly wasn't playing as well vs a defense that well rounded and vs defenses like that the off script plays tend to be the ones that get it done. You also tend to play those types of teams in the playoffs.

The defense didn't close out the types of games last year that they've closed out this year. Undeniably the offense was a lot better last year than it has been this year despite being without our offensive MVP CMC most of the year.

I'm starting to see that Purdy might be on a two-year prove it deal now that the team has another able QB.

I mean Purdy was a backup until he wasn't.

Money/Salary Cap is key. So, if he has a mediocre season's end and playoffs and with Jones returning and another able QB gets signed like Darnold/Jones they might go that way and use the money. Season is halfway over and they haven't lost a beat with Jones and backups.

Not only that but Brock had a kicker that couldn't make anything. He even had to overcome him in week 1. Mac probably only beats the Saints and Giants with Moody kicking

No sense in putting Purdy in already the season is half way done and Mac Jones making good decisions. Keep Purdy for next off season already, I'm tired of getting my hopes up about him coming back this season.

If he comes back this year and injures that toe even worse this forum will erupt about how stupid Kyle was to let him return. I'm sur Purdy wantsa to get back but it seems like a high risk for a low reward rigfht now.
