Sure, he wasn't as good as 2023, but "struggle" doesn't match his 2024 output. What these guys are doing is looking at the 6-11 record and assuming it was the offense that struggled, and therefore that's all Purdy's fault, when the reality was that it was mostly the defense that struggled while the offense just didn't have the guys to bail them out.
It's the same thing with Brock. People simply can't get over the fact that he's not some uber athlete with a rocket arm. They see a shorter QB without the cannon arm and super fast speed and the draft bias comes out.
It's also why actual former QBs and coaches give him a lot more love than the hot take guys, because they know how the sport is played and that athletic ability, while great, isn't everything when it comes to playing this position.
They tried to put down Tom Brady for years and he actually had the SB rings to flex. He didn't get his flowers from most people until the 2007 season...ironically which ended in a highly disappointing SB loss to a defense coached by Steve Spagnulo. Hell in some cases people still knocked Brady until he won it with Tampa Bay, thinking he was a product of Belichick
Now as much as I love Brock I don't see him being Tom Brady. Partly because Brady had more physical traits(as a passer) but also because I think Brady had the insane Jerry Rice like drive to be the best that I don't think Brock has. It's not saying Brock doesn't have a drive to be great but Brady put football over everything else in his life. Brock isn't doing that nor would I fault him for it.
But Brock simply has to keep developing and growing. If he shows what he's able to do more and more people will have no choice but to give him his due. Hopefully it includes multiple SB wins as part of his resume as a 49er when his career is over and done with.
