Echoing reporting from @TomPelissero: The #Rams have given permission for Matthew Stafford's agent to speak with other teams about his value. This is not a trade request.

Instead, the Rams and Stafford can gain a better understanding of his value outside the team, potentially… pic.twitter.com/ouYiIQtcr9

I'm no expert… but doesn't it seem a little dumb for the Rams to let this go public?
If other teams were smart, they would either tell Stafford "sure, we'll pay you $65M a year… IF the Rams trade you for a 7th" OR talk to Stafford's agent with absolutely no numbers, then go to the Rams and say "so… are you willing to trade Stafford, then, since they're allowed to talk to us about a contract? We kinda need to discuss AND agree to trade details with you before we can discuss any contract details with him… 👀"
Rams want to have their cake and eat it too, here. They basically want a stupid team to do all the negotiating for them and write up an affordable contract for them. It absolutely should not work
that way. Interested teams right now should be calling the Rams and saying "we are not negotiating a damn thing with Stafford until YOU AGREE to trade him to us. Until then, he is YOUR player and you are on your own in negotiations."
Hopefully teams don't fall for this BS.

how about we let Purdy, who had a crappy season last season, either sit or we trade him and bring stafford here for 1-2 years. Stafford is more "win now" ready than Brock is.
Right now stafford is a better QB.

Not only is it "a thing." It's "everything."
He won a SB there. So what? Not getting a "pay you back" reward in the form of a future contract.

Rams are a better team, but Brock was still able to rank higher than Stafford in passer rating and qbr

I think Brock's deal will tell us a lot about the plan moving forward. His deal along with a potential Deebo dead cap hit will give us hope or not for free agency. Even though we could extend some guys to clear up cap space, it would be great to see where we stand prior to free agency.
Greenlaw
Huff
Ward
All seem like they will be cashing in elsewhere if it takes this long to negotiate each contract. Remember how long the T. Williams and B.A deals took last offseason?

Purdy with his "crappy season" compared to a better QB Stafford…

It's a bogus comparison. Stafford is a better quarterback than Brock Purdy, even now. That's not a debate. Purdy is younger therefore he's a better long term investment. But if he plays hardball with negotiations and threatens to sit out, you absolutely would have to look into getting Stafford especially if you want to win now. With that said, we're as likely to get Matt Stafford as we are Cooper Cupp. Which is ZERO. McVay isn't dumb…

Lol imagine a team sending their star Super Bowl winning HOF Qb to their division rival and giving the rival the chance to win a Super Bowl.
