QB Brock Purdy Thread

IMO,Lance will definitely get a chance to compete for the starting job, if not outright given it, due to the 3 first and 3rd spent on him. If s**t goes sideways they will have a safety net in another promising young player in Brock.

The irony is Jimmy was 1st in big play rate% last year.
What's the irony?

using a percentage over quantity?

Its big plays per pass attempts. If we don't throw as often we're not going to have as many.

Last year we had 67 explosive pass plays. TB lead league with 82. However they threw the ball 230 more times. So easier to have more quantity.

People in here sucking the Rams nuts and how well they made that roster, complaining about not trading for Stafford…now they're a joke. We're on QB3 and guys like Rogers and Brady are a shell of themselves. Lawrence was a bust and not he's not. Hurts was regarded as a "running QB" now he's a MVP candidate.

how about ya'll take a breath enjoy the games and understand there's a whole hell of a lot that can happen by the 2023 season

THIS X INFINITY.

If I see one more "it's time to trade Trey asap" post ..

Oh, hush, Clock.

Merry Christmas

We have 3 QB's. I think JG is going to be the odd one out because of his salary. Purdy is looking pretty good and Lance has the potential to be very good also. We are very lucky to have this luxury. Who is going to start next year is going to be fun to see. But if Purdy ends up taking us to the Big Show and winning, what a story that will be Either way we will have many years of 49ers football without worrying how good our QB's are. And they are only 22-23 yrs old!!!! Good time to be a Niner fan

How many could they have if Jimmy took the shots that Brock is?

No clue.
Nobody knows what Purdy is......could be Drew Brees, could be Case Keenum....but I'll be damned if I making any decision on Trey Lance anytime soon.

I'm just thankful SF is still playing meaningful games and is still relevant for this years playoffs barring something stupid bad.

I hope we go all the way and win a super bowl. I do. I love Brock. But Brock is better as he has played more ball. Not saying it's so but it could be, in time, Trey can be a star. A super star. I really trust the process and why Kyle and John picked him. They would probably tell you the same.

Brock may play really well but there is only ONE way to find out if we have better and that is a minimum one year on the field with Trey. Trey had some really beautiful throws at times as well. It's nuts to me that a fan base, who knows ZERO and that's ZERO about a high draft pick is ready to kick him to the curb. And you know why? That QB we had was so beyond mediocre it isn't funny. The fan base is beyond themselves to just get something better. They didn't even know they needed better as Jimmy just wins. That's great but Trey needs his proper evaluation with a year on the field and not to break some of your hearts, it will happen.

If you think otherwise, then your not being realistic about the process and evaluation that occurred to pick Trey. It's beyond draft capital.

Yeah, it's the Brock or Lance show going forward. Looking more like the Brock show. Jimmy provided some good football when healthy, and helped bring this franchise back to respectability and should be commended for that. I viewed this season as Jimmys audition for other teams. Even with his good play as of late, it was a long shot bringing him back. Brock's play and price tag evaporated any tiny chance of that happening.

Agreed good times were in. Who would've though that Mr Irrelevant would step in and play like he has, after sitting on the bench all season with very few first teams reps? The FQB play he's provided was expected out of the guy we gave 3 first and a 3rd for not Mr Irrelevant. Crazy.

We should teach Brock and Trey how to do the fusion dance.

Just repeat what you just did in drafting Trey. If Brock flames out, draft a QB in the next few years. Come on, use your common sense, brother.

Here's some common sense SF has a most $20M in DM if they move him…you have him for 3 yrs if you want at a reasonable price. We ALL know SF goes though QBs like water and your plan is to have Brock and who? You gonna have to actually pay money for a legit backup/vet.

let's stop being instant gratification reactionary emotional fans for 2 secs. How about that for some common sense?

what's even sillier is you want to draft another QB if Brock fails lol…you actually gonna let that one develop or no?

His 3 years expires at the end of next season doesn't it?

You agree that Purdy has now performed better than Trey and Purdy is most likely the starter next year right? And that Trey will only get an opportunity now before his three years expires if Purdy gets hurt? Right?

Not necessarily. Wha tif Trey outplays him in camp or is about the same as Brock and Kyle decides to go with Trey. Nothing is set in stone. I can't believe hiw peopek look at what little they've seen from bot Trey and Brock and decide what willbe next year.

Brock could regress and Trey might make big strides. We've seen both things happen many times in the NFL. Only an idiot would make up his mind avout next years starterer until after training camp.

My guess is it will be Purdy because I don't thunk Trey can improve that much during his rehab. By mid season it could be a different story.

One note on Purdy. Jimmy had one stretch where he threw 2 or more TD passes in 4 consecutive games in his entire career. It happened earlier this season against KC, Carolina, LV and Atl. The Niners went 2-2 in those games. Purdy has 2 TD passes in all 4 games that he's played in and all were wins. That's an indication of how far ahead he is in his development.

Your argument about Trey is all about "what ifs" and ultra conservatism about "what if" Purdy regresses, Any thing is possible in an infinite universe but what is most likely is based on what we see. And what we see and what is reality is that Purdy is head and shoulders ahead of Lance in an NFL QB that can run the system. Purdy is not ahead of Jimmy G in regards to efficiency but is trending over time to exceed JG's efficiency. Given JG is second in the league behind Mahomes in efficiency Purdy is going well. What I judge Purdy on is his tangible results and the intangible aspects he brings such as leadership, that he is a big dog in the fight, his ability to play while injured (JG was good in this regard as well). All Trey is, is potential due to his body type with some spurts of good football in college and NFL. That potential is far from realized yet and I do not have a crystal ball. But as you well know potential can turn to bust as well as turn to be top shelf, or indeed anywhere in between. That is why I have little regard to unrealized potential as opposed to what is being delivered right now.

My whole point isn't about who's better now. It's more about why would Kyle not give Trey a chance to compete. He's got nothing to lose by creating an open competition. It's an incentive for Trey to work hard to improve. If he declares that Purdy is the starter then where's the incentive for Trey. If he just throws in the towel then he's saying he made a mistake before Trey really gets a chance to learn on the field. I doubt they do that after 4 starts and only one full game as the actual starter. Based on how they have handled other players that have struggled to get on the field either because of performance or injuries I don't see them giving up this quickly on Trey. They hung in with Thomas and Garnet and eventually released them after they were given a fair chance. They gave Jimmy several starts and waited thru 2 major injuries before deciding to move on.

I'll be shocked if they don't give Trey a real chance in camp and pre season. Whether he can win the job is another issue.
I think someone pointed this out already somewhere.

The saying is, it takes players 2 seasons to fully understand Kyle's offense. Matt Ryan struggled a bit in his first season under Kyle and then became MVP in the second season. I wouldn't count Jimmy G 2017. He had to run the play without a deep understanding and played a bit of impromptu backyard football. He struggled in 2018 before the injury. I think he fully understood Kyle's offense by 2019.

I know Brock played 4 seasons of college football. I get that, he understand basic football well. NFL offense, especially Kyle's offense are like 10, or even 20 times more complicated than college offense. Being rookie, he is not supposed to have a deep understanding of Kyle's offense in his rookie season. Somehow in one off-season, he was able to develop from a college football player to the NFL, and seems to have mastered Kyle's offense. This is truly remarkable.
