We all thought Kaepernick and Jimmy had "it" after 3 games. The Rams thought Goff had "it" after 3 seasons. Look how they turned out.

I am not sure many were ever completely sold on Kaepernick.

Jimmy G and Goff will easily start in this league for more than a decade. Not too shabby.

I'll do you one better then:

Gardner Minshew. Had an even higher passer rating than Purdy in his first three starts. And all three starts were against 2019 playoff teams (though the Jags only went 1-2).

Now, let me be clear that I really, really badly want Purdy to be that guy. We've been searching for that guy for decades now and have been tricked at least three times into thinking we've finally found him. It's just that three games is not enough to know that he is him given that there have been cases where much larger sample sizes weren't enough.

agree.

Not a fan of how wild the Purdy sensation went overnight.

People are talking the next Montana/Brady etc.

Why would that bother you?

I don't get the negativity over being happy with and praising the guy.

For real. Just be happy for now, and if he ends up sucking then we have the rest of our lives to b***h about how much he sucks.

Exactly
I can't live my life tempering joy and enthusiasm to stave stave off disappointment.

lol at the negativity of some scared to be wrong.

Go Purdy. Keep the dream alive

because its pure football porn - it doesn't "bother" me woolick - I just approach it with intrigue, optimism and skepticism.

All good. There's no wrong way to be a fan. There's only a handful of fanbases that can have real optimism at any given time. The 49er fanbase is one of them at this point in time imo. I'm going to ride that emotional roller coaster knowing it could all come crashing down at any moment.

I get the tempering for the Purdy hype, but remember - Purdy just has to do enough to be equal or better then Jimmy G and that's not really a high bar.
We are all FANatics and it is good to feel like there's a chance. A real chance and our eyes tell us there's a chance.

To some it's a very high bar. He's still got tons of untapped upside.

A healthy Jimmy G is probably a top 15 QB. This is actually a ridiculously high bar for any rookie QB (whether it is the #1 pick of the draft or the last pick of the draft).

That's middle of the pack and currently Purdy is ranked 16. So not a ridiculous high bar.

It is a ridiculous high bar. Yes Purdy is ranked 16, it really just meant Purdy way overachieved on what was deemed impossible. Hope he can keep it up.

Perfect mindset.

Shows that deeming playing like Jimmy impossible was premature and foolish.

Yes, I was one who thought that. I mean, when Jimmy was healthy that sounded pretty ridiculous to bench Jimmy in favor of a 3rd string QB. Stranger things have happened!!!

Not all that strange. Lots of weapons plus a great coach can lead to a high functioning qb to do very well no matter the draft pedigree. Only thing surprising about Brock has been his level of poise. Haven't had that at the QB position since Jeff Garcia.

Well that's a big part of it. Especially as a rookie coming in with limited first team reps.

I told everyone to calm down after the Dolphins game. Purdy just happened to be no ordinary 7th round pick rookie and no ordinary 3rd string QB.
