Could've gotten Humphrey in the 2nd without using a first if we are gonna complain in hindsight.

Rams traded, in essence, 4 1st round picks, 2 2nd round picks and 3 3rd round picks for Matthew Stafford, a 4th and a 6th.

I remember when the San Francisco Chronicle came up with a "give Joe Montana a nickname" contest after he won the 1981 Super Bowl and became the toast of the town. It didn't work. Joe was just Joe. Or, Joe Cool.

Who is going to start the "Let's Give Brock Purdy a Nickname" Thread? Myself? I kind of like Brocktacular. But there are so many others.

The Nickname only works if the players around him start to use it.

It's already been assigned. Kittle did a touchdown celebration honoring the nickname when Brock ran it in for a touchdown during the Bucs game.

So, what is the nickname?

We would incur that even if we traded him to another team?

As I understand it, if he is not on the roster on June 1, 2023, we would incur a $20,153,107 dead money charge and a cap hit of $10,851,673, per Overthecap.com.

Could the contract be renegotiated (if we were going to trade him) so the team trading for him takes that dead cap hit?

After going through 3 QB's this season and I think the same with 2 other season under Shanahan. Why would we be so quick to get rid of a young QB with a high ceiling?

I don't care how well Purdy plays this season, he is going to have to prove it all over again next season. Nothing wrong with having a QB competition next spring/summer.

Yeah I don't understand the desire to get rid of Trey. Jimmy is understandable as he's going to be too expensive and will likely get starter money elsewhere. But Trey is relatively inexpensive and has immense talent. We'd never get enough compensation back to justify losing that good of a backup (assuming he can't/doesn't beat out Brock).
If I had my rathers, I would rather have Purdy and Garoppolo for next year since Trey Lance hasn't really shown me anything! I really don't have anything against Trey Lance, but Jimmy has proven that he can win games and Purdy could just be a one year wonder until the opposing teams figure him out.

It takes about a year for the opposing teams to figure out a player, but if Purdy proves that he's not a one year wonder, then maybe trade Jimmy. Jimmy should realize by now that he's injury prone and it's just a matter of time, so he would be perfect as a backup. I doubt that there will be a big market for Jimmy based on his history of injuries.

And had Micah Parsons lol.

It's funny how some say he got lucky that they dropped the pick. We literally dropped 2 super easy interceptions and had another one that was a pick six, nullified.

It does help set expectations about him though... the fact that he had one int dropped and one called back. Many people called the dropped int last night very "Jimmy-esque" in the game day thread.

And against the Dolphins he had an INT that was basically a punt and Howard wasn't smart to catch it. So the statline evens out at the end. Maybe Purdy should have 2 INT's instead of 1 these last three games but that's it. Also, Purdy hit Aiyuk square in the chest for the game-icing first down (and possibly another TD) and it was dropped. It goes both ways.

And hindsight is always 20/20. LOL

For real. Give it up. The dumbs**t comments about the 2 first round picks we gave up is rather annoying. Get lost if you can't get over that.

We used 3 1st and a 3rd bro, and it's hard to get over such a terrible move.

It is only a terrible move if the 49ers get nothing out of it. As of right now, this gamble to trade up to grab Trey hasn't worked out for the 49ers. But that's right now. Who knows what will happen next year, or the year after or the year after that.

Trey has an enormous amount of talent. He can play multiple positions. He doesn't have to play QB. Plus, as of right now, Trey is stuck with the 49ers. No team is going to sign Trey Lance to a big free agent deal if he hasn't established himself or shown his talent with San Francisco. He might get a one year "prove it" offer, but not much beyond that.

I'm about 90% certain we would've picked Slater at #12. Not Parsons.

At this point, I'm just relieved neither of the future 1sts we gave to Miami turned into premium top 10 picks. The trade looks bad right now but it could've been worse. Denver just gift-wrapped two top 10 picks to Seattle ffs. Rams got a future #2 overall in the RGIII trade. Lions are probably going to get a top 10 pick this year. Even the Bears ended up giving the Giants #7 overall in the Fields trade. Think our trade was bad? The original #12 pick was the only really good pick we gave up. #29 and #20+ overall (hopefully lower on the latter) doesn't exactly cripple a franchise—especially if you draft well in the later rounds like we have.

It would be nice to come out smelling like roses and get a decent McGlinchey replacement, though, which is what we would've gotten had we kept #12 overall.

As far as first rounders go: 1 - 3 = -2

We traded a first for a first and then gave up 2 more, so to be accurate we only really gave up the two 1sts and the 3rd.

Yeah, admittedly it sucks because it has not yet worked out, so I understand that part, but that milk has been spilled and is pointless to keep on crying over it.

There is still the possibility, however remote it may be, that Trey grows into the guy KS envisioned when we went for it.

That'd be fantastic. I'm very curious to see what they do with the OL in the off season.

I can see Garoppolo reunion in New England, especially if the Patriots miss the playoffs this season. Bill Belicheck will start feeling a bit of pressure if Mac Jones fades down the stretch.

We USED 3 1st round picks and a 3rd, total, to acquire Lance... the drafting of him was one of the 1sts. I'm not going to say it again.
