QB Brock Purdy Thread

Memory Lane. Who knew how important today. (popped into my feed today. Was a nice reminder)

Jimmy G. went 5-0 in 2017, when we were out of the playoff race, no pressure, beating 3 avg teams, one playoff team and one team without key starters.
He became the starting QB next season.
I have no issues with Jimmy G, as I understand his limitations and he plays to the best of his abilities. Most importantly, team player.

Lance has potential, but none of us have really seen it play out. Maybe he will also succeed if given the opportunity, maybe he won't. It's 50-50, meaning we don't know. Given the draft capital spent, he has the best shot to start next year.

Purdy beat three 3 playoff teams (officially 2), and that too with quite a bit of pressure on his shoulders. He is part of the "reason for the wins" too. Sure, more games are in store this season, but so far, just an amazing run given his lack of experience. If we win the remaining games, and a couple of playoff games, he just increases his chances of being a starter.

Pick 262, NFL should love these type of stories.

He showed the last two games that he can beat blitzes with big time TD passes.

He showed last night that he can also be patient when teams drop 8 in coverage and also get a big TD pass.

That's a great thing to put on film for opposing defenses to see, making it harder for them to know how to attack him.

I'd say they probably will still lean towards more coverages over blitzes still for the time being, since his two almost picks against the Bucs and Seahawks were on plays where he didn't see the coverage quite right, but still - kid is showing that he REALLY knows how to play the position, and that goes a long way in this league, even when there's no all world talent in his arm or legs like the top QBs have.

I'm happy we didn't leave points on the board by missing blown coverages.

I hate going back and looking at tape and seeing a receiver with nobody near him while we check down.
Brock Purdy over the last 3 games.

69% completion
7.3 YPA
36.9 1st down%
7.1 TD%
1.2 INT%

On 3rd down he is completing 76.7% of his passes with 2 TD's and 0 INT's.

Winning in Seattle isn't east even against a diminished team like they are now. How many Niner QBs have struggled there in the past. I don't think he had any false starts ot delays getting the plays off. The crowd didn't seem to bother him although it helped that they got off to an early lead and kept the Hawks bottled up all night.

Is that good? LOL

It doesn't get more efficient than that!

I was really worried when he had to start at the 1 inch line. But he kept his cool and at least gave us some room for the Punt.

It's been a bit of a small sample size, and we'll see how the rest of the season goes, but I can't get over how calm this kid looks. Last night was the first time in ages where I didn't wince watching our QB drop back on the road @ seattle. He was laboring a bit from the pain, and some throws were off, but when he hits guys, it's usually a tight spiral right in the numbers. The Aiyuk drop in the 4th was frustrating because it felt we were marching to ice the game. Brock will be even better next week after a 10 day layoff.

Unless we do the unthinkable and run the table, Lance will get every chance to compete for the job next year. But I'm starting to think Brock is playing Jimmy off the team

Beautiful illustration.

Love the aggressiveness. Defenses are realizing that Purdy is not a game manager. He's a playmaker.

really makes me wonder why jimmy would check down a play like that? it makes absolutely no sense at all

We don't know what Jimmy would do there. But we are seeing again and again what Purdy will do. Second game in a row he looked for the bigger play (Aiyuk TD versus Bucs).
We don't know for certain, but history offers us a pretty good guide.

TD% and INT% are elite. 1st down percentage is fringe top 10 but 3rd down is off the charts.

And Kyle called a pass play…. He's seen two of those go poorly this year with Jimmy, and called it anyway. That's confidence in your QB.

Brock Purdy has only started two games and he already knows not to step out of the back of the endzone. Wow.
