Purdy played very similar to how Jimmy did with CMC.

- to be fair, Jimmy gets you to the playoffs but can't win it all. Seems like a apt comparison

His game is nothing like Jimmy's tho.

Neither guy is going to wow u with athleticism or a strong arm. Anything else?

Lol purdy was arguably better than jimmy, who was having his best season yet. A 7th round rookie was matching him, but ya same qb

I swear people don't know s**t if they really think Purdy and Jimmy are the same. Not ONCE would've Jimmy made the throw to run around the pocket and hit Mitchell in the playoffs against Seattle. NOT ONCE Jimmy ever made a play where he ran around the pocket and hit Aiyuk on a dime which he dropped. Jimmy is beyond a statue in the pocket, doesn't see the field and never ever goes deep and if he does it's usually a sickening miss like he did Juice against TEN a couple years ago on near thanksgiving. It's a joke that people would truly believe Purdy and Jimmy are alike

Jimmy wasn't good enough. Purdy remains to be seen. But the only direct comparison is both guys playing with CMC, and their stats were almost identical. Purdy has demonstrated better RZ performance than any QB under Shanahan. I expect there to be a reduction in Purdy's performance once he becomes the full time starter. I remain hopeful, but it seems like we just replaced Jimmy with a cheaper Jimmy. Not as good of a release but more accurate on longer throws. Slightly less arm strength, improved mobility, and improved RZ production. Not as good of a sneaker.

Purdy can make a lot more plays off script, and he didn't choke in the playoff.

But the biggest difference is one was 9 years in the league, and the other one was a rookie.
Idk why so many people think he will regress. he was a rookie.. usually how you seem someone as a rookie is their floor, and then they improve upon that. I understand that some may think he has a low ceiling, but not sure why they think his floor is going to collapse.

If he just played exactly how he did last year, we would probably be super bowl favorites. Thats without any improvement. He will have improvement in certain aspects of his game. he may have some struggles elsewhere - but to expect him to become bad is just weird.

It's hilarious cause there are a handful of people that think lance is going to explode in a positive way, but almost all of his film is crap. Brock puts together historically great film for a rookie, and he's going to fall apart.

Both should be better than what we've seen from them in the past.

I wouldn't say that almost all of Trey's film is crap. I say its 50/50 up to this point. Its just that Brock's film has been like 90/10.
Well half is his pass attempts are incomplete, a lot of bad accuracy too - not just drops, most of his runs were ineffective, he has 2 touchdowns and 3 turnovers (im only including the three games he started and finished). I feel like it's 70-80% of his film. Regardless, even if it's half - that's bad.

but I understand that he should do better going forward, and I expect him too. I just find it funny that his film inspires some that he is going to be special and Brock's, which like you said a majority of his film is awesome, is going to regress.

he COULD, but idk why people think it's so likely. Like another poster said, they chalk his play up to being more nfl ready but very few rookies (you can count on one hand) have done what he just did - so it isn't that he just started a lot in college. Tons of guys have started a lot in college and blew in the nfl. It's not giving him due, it's just trying to cut him down in hopes that someone else that people like can try and do what he has done/doing.

His designed runs were mostly inaffective. However his scrambles and ability to escape pressure and make plays with his arm as well as his legs has been on par with Brock's last season. He also made some great tight window throws as well as some nicely placed passes in between high and low defenders. He also dealt with a 16.7% drop rate in the Arizona game as well as an 18.8% drop rate in the Chicago game. I'm sure we could go back and forth on plays all night demonstrating my original point. His game has been 50/50.

Let's be real - his trade value is where it's at because of the way he played in those few games. If he played good in them, he would be worth a fortune.

Freak injuries that don't have long term effects, don't crater your trade value.

jimmy played what 3 games in NE, and teams were offering much more than the 2nd we offered. Why? Because he played well in his few appearances. He had freak injuries and it didn't make anyone second guess trying to get him.

so we can debate how well he played but he obviously didn't play well.

I am being real. You are the one who refuses to recognize the nice plays that he made. I recognize both the good and the bad.

I'm not refusing to recognize anything. He made a few nice places, I just think it was like 10-15% of his total snaps were good plays.

No dog in this fight, and I'm trying to ignore the fact that hand-offs are counted into total snaps (how the hell did he screw so many up?),...but dude is referencing drop rates higher than the 10-15% you're referencing. Can you give us a complete breakdown at how u arrived at these percentages?

I mean did any thought at all go into these numbers or did u simply "throw them up"...?

With the weapons we have, Brock is gonna look good way more often than not. A top defense slowed him down a bit in the playoffs.. but he still made plays to help us win that playoff game against the Cowboys.

Long term wise, I'm just curious to see how he plays when things don't go well personnel wise. Like no Kittle here or ..no CMC there..etc. We're not gonna have all these weapons in a year or two...especially when we eventually have to pay one of our QBs. Brock can only buy us an extra year.

Trey moved the ball against a top ranked (at the time) Cards defense with no Kittle and others. I believe that is why Kyle brought him in... to be a difference maker when things aren't going well, be it with his strong arm or legs.

Brock can be a difference maker as well, with his quick decision making and his legit feel for the game. I do believe in him, but I do also want to see it as well before we commit to him long term.

If we're fortunate enough nothing happens and we have all of our players with him and we win a Super Bowl... then so be it! lol.

He was only missing kittle that game. He had Deebo, Aiyuk, Juice, and Mitchell.

the thing that killed us in part was going 3-11 on 3rd down and 1-5 on 4th down. Kyle should shoulder some of the blame for that due to his game plan and in-game decision making.

"Only missing Kittle" is a misnomer. Dont know if you watched last year, but CMC's a kinda a big deal as a player well.

Our offense last year had both.

In response to this "with no Kittle and others." Who are the others he's referring to that I'm missing?
I think his point was the limited things we saw from Lance in his rookie season probably shouldnt compare directly to our 2022 season due to the players mentioned not being there at his disposal.

Pretty sure he was talking about the cards game. "Trey moved the ball against a top ranked (at the time) Cards defense with no Kittle and others." And that's what I replied to. Was there other players missing that I'm forgetting?
Ignore that for a sec and respond with what you actually think:

A young QB not having a couple studs like Kittle and CMC should probably not be compared to results that came once they were both in the offense (in 2022).

I mean you can either agree or disagree?

So I guess I'm not going to get an answer to this.

"Pretty sure he was talking about the cards game. "Trey moved the ball against a top ranked (at the time) Cards defense with no Kittle and others." And that's what I replied to. Was there other players missing that I'm forgetting?"

btw Purdy played without Deebo or with an injured Deebo for a few games and fared well.

Like I said before, you would think a QB that cost three 1st round picks to get all the way up to the 3rd overall pick would elevate the players around him and not the other way around.

Just an observation.

Keep in mind Purdy did all what he did last season as a rookie who was picked last. People tend to forget that.

Does Deebo, Aiyuk, Juice, and Mitchell really need any elevating? According to some posters they carried a QB.

And now they aren't enough.

It's more like choosing to forget.

oh, and with broken ribs to boot.

And to have the expectation that a QB can do this 4 games into his career, is completely unfair to him. I don't care if the QBs name is Trey Lance, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf.

I don't know a single QB in NFL history who had that bar as a measuring stick 4 starts into his career.
