It's a curse since we reportedly passed on Rodgers with the first pick in part because of arrogance, lol. Break a curse from the #1 overall pick with the last overall pick years later. It's science.
Would have loved to see Alex drafted to this team as currently constructed to see how things woulda went.

Better/stable coaching probably would have helped him a bunch. Hard to believe it would have taken 6-7 years for him to improve in that kind of environment. Not sure he was ever rising above what he was here and in KC when he had it though.

Maybe. I'm sure he'd protect the ball and make safe decisions and we could beat most of the teams we're supposed to beat. I'd be nervous about any game that requires a lot of scoring or against the rare NFL team with a good defense, even with the supporting cast. Oh well… off to whatifsports to find out, lol.

49ers linebacker Oren Burks has been impressed with Brock Purdy enough that when asked if he saw any similarities between new New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Purdy, he revealed one common trait.
"The poise is very similar especially coming from a young guy," Burks said on Monday. "It's very rare to see a guy come into a situation, like he did last year, handle himself like a pro and ultimately get an opportunity to play.
"I think he handled that probably better than any rookie I've seen with that opportunity."
Burks shared a locker room with Rodgers while spending his first four NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He believes Purdy is cool under pressure just like his former teammate.
Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has installed more blitzes -- which the linebacker has enjoyed -- but maybe even more unexpectedly, have left the second-year play-caller unfazed.
"I see a lot of similarities, but they are both their own players so we will see how his career progresses," Burks said. "But I've been super proud of Brock, even as a person. He's a great human being, a great person to be around, and people feed off the that. The poise that he has in the pocket, the way he leads the huddle is different."

Pass
Can't even get myself to think about whether I'd want that or not. All in on Purdy, Trey, and Steve Young 2.0.

100%. He should have been a complete bust and out of the league within four years considering that this franchise did everything possible to try and ruin him. I wonder what he would have looked like with proper coaching and decent talent around him from the get-go.

Are you guys talking about Alex smith? It's a shame what happened to him, happened to such a great guy too. His arm never quite had the same zip on it after his rookie year because of what they did to his shoulder.
I question if he would ever been better than what he was in KC, but he should of been good much earlier. Biggest shaft job in nfl history. (For qb development). Idk what else we could of done to destroy him, man had heart.

He was in KC under Andy Reid for 5 seasons. He probably wouldn't have been much better than what he was at KC, just get to his prime faster (maybe in 3rd or 4th season)
