QB Brock Purdy Thread

Glad things going well with Brock. I've rewatched the first half of the Tom Brady return to Bay Area game from last season about ten times. It was so awesome.

I still don't think we know what we have. Not sure how it can be decided. I love the bold predictions from NFL.com
A number of folks seem to really believe Sam is a hidden gem and never had a fair shot from being on s**tty teams. And I still believe in Trey. Brock blew me away. One needs to once and for all be that franchise QB. It's holding us back.

I agree. I just finally want the QB position figured out for the long-term and not with a Jimmy G 2.0 replacement. IMO Sam is who is he's after 50 starts…people still find excuses for him. At this point if he was good he would have shown it.

I have much higher hopes for Brock and Lance. I also want them to be able to move off whomever if they're not that top end QB (need to see them fail first). No more hovering with an avg level QB that needs everything around him to be great.

Also IMO this article is prime click bait nonsense

It's about continuity, my friend. If he's ready, he'll start. If he's healthy, he'll play. IMO Shanahan's number priority is to continue Brock Purdy's growth and success through actual playing experience. Why change something that is going great, or something that is giving you the best productivity.

I disagree this is how Kyle is thinking…if he plays bad a couple games they aren't gonna let him develop through that. They should….but they've shown they ain't gonna let that s**t happen. He will get benched and whomever is next up will get a shot.

Why do you think this? What have we seen from Kyle to make you believe this would happen?

Based on what?

Kyle stuck with Jimmy in 2021 when he started poorly and even Hoyer in 2017.

Kyle is not trigger happy at QB.

I agree that Kyle's first priority isn't Brock's development. His first priority has always been to win whatever the next game is. Every decision is in service to that. That said, he's never shown a quick hook when it comes to QBs. I think Hoyer was the only one he ever benched mid-season for poor play. This situation might be different though.

Dante Pettis, Joe Williams, Trey Sermon?

Kyle is not trigger happy at QB.

Kyle had to stick with Jimmy for lack of options and the investment into him and he bailed from Hoyer at the first opportunity.

Iinvestment in Jimmy? In 2021 they had just invested 3 first round picks on Lance and Kyle held off from putting him in. 49ers were 2-3 going into the bye and Shanahan held off benching Jimmy. 49ers then lost out of the bye and were 2-4 and Shanahan still started Jimmy the next week vs Chicago.

As for Hoyer - 49ers were 0-6 before Shanahan made a change.

True, I suppose. It will depend somewhat on how Lance and/or Darnold look in training camp and preseason. If one of them looks good, Kyle might not have a lot of patience if Brock is struggling or rusty.

I don't think Brock is jimmy 2.0, I think he will be much better, but we don't really know yet. I think he flashed so many special things that I think he should be given the first bid at the benefit of the doubt.

i think Sam has a ton of talent, and he's flashed it at points, but his consistent turnover issues worries the hell out of me. I don't see him becoming a star but I think he can a very good game manager - especially here. I don't see him as a franchise qb though.

i have serious concerns regarding Lance being able to be a top 5 QB in this league, or a franchise qb, but we won't truly know until he plays more. If Brock can't play, I'd rather see Trey over darnold. I'm encouraged by lances improvements this off season but I'll have to see him play before I change my mind on him at this point.

overall, I think/hope Brock will be the guy. I just love everything about how he plays, preps, carry's himself etc. if he can improve on last season, then we've got something special. If not, I'll be disappointed and depending on how he is playing - would rather look for another option. I don't want another "really good" or "damn good" qb. I want a franchise guy
Not sure if this has been posted here or not.

Lance is putting in the work and he too will have CMC at his disposal. Purdy was great and did a lot of intangible stuff that no QB has done here since Steve Young retired, but Im not ready to give up on Lance yet. I want to see him with all the weapons purdy had last year

Kyle admitted he benched Hoyer for Jimmy before he was up to speed on the playbook. I'd say that qualifies, lol.

Hoyer had already been benched for CJ Beathard during a game against Washington before we had even traded for Jimmy. CJ Beathard was injured against the Seahawks, which forced us to play Jimmy only a few weeks after trading for him.
