Whenever I come in here though I am reminded of what was probably one of Steve Young's best quotes, "In San Francisco it's never enough to just win, you have to earn style points as well".

Forget what happens when the team loses even when it wins there is constant complaining. "Oh, we should have won by more". "Oh, our air yards per play was too low", "Oh, we would have lost if this or this or this had happened", "Oh, Kyle is a bust". "Oh, Lynch doesn't know what he is doing. We should have drafted this low round player who no one ever heard of before but ended outplaying his draft position instead of the player we did choose three years ago".

And when the team does lose reason goes completely out the window, Turns out Jimmy hurt his leg on the first series of the game which affected his ability to drive the ball on his throws which must have caused some problems but try and mention that as just a matter of fact thing and it becomes, "Jimmy excuses". Trey looked exactly like a you would expect a rookie QB to look and some people are already blasting him and Lynch and Shanahan for having given up the draft capital to get him. There are a lot of reasons why a team wins or loses on any given Sunday, but unless this team always wins and every player on the roster is a Pro Bowler and every draft pick plays up to his draft status, and no one very makes a mistake or a bad call it's just complain, complain, complain. Like I said, Forty Whiners has always seemed pretty appropriate.

I agree with all of this. 100%

And it's other fanbases as well. I've seen equally awful takes on the Orlando Magic forums of all teams.

But that said, the 49ers fanbase and media are both atrocious. I say on a regular basis, I'm a fan of the 49ers, not the fans. I took for granted how peaceful not being among the fanbase was until I started lurking back here the last few days and signing up today. Probably a mistake

Only thing I disagree with is the fact that Shanahan and Lynch did in fact give up too much draft capital for Trey Lance, but that's not based on yesterday. It's based on the fact that you shouldn't be giving up that much draft capital for anyone with very few exceptions. Trey Lance is gonna have to be an absolute franchise altering QB to justify the trade.

So, basically, you're Forty Whining about people making objective criticisms against our team?

There actually aren't that many objective criticisms being offered in these threads. Almost all of the regular posters, with a few notable exceptions, have some narrative they're pushing or some player or coach they hate and feel compelled to complain about constantly. Or like to pretend they know more than they do about one thing or another. I have always felt that forty whiners was a pretty appropriate nickname

Just wondering how other fan based sites are after a loss ? They all can't be objective, and surely many posters are biased and angry.

Yeah we are like the polar opposite of Seahawks fans who think they're hot s**t just because their team is finally relevant after decades of mediocrity. Niner fans are overly critical in comparison.

On the plus side, Niner fans are by faaaar more knowledgeable about Xs and Os and the game in general. Seahawks fans are mostly mouth breathers that think that showing up to their convex shaped stadium and screaming like a banshee makes them a member of the team. Seriously it's pathetic that they wear jerseys dedicated to themselves. I'd be insulted if I was one of their players.

You're not lying there.
It's time to call out OP. Don't worry it's ok for him to hate on a guy for being injured and question his toughness but how dare
you losers say anything bad about Kyle!!!! We truly do have the worst fans. It really doesn't get much worse than hating on a guy for being injured and not playing. Truly as op put it… "Toxic".

You guys remember that playoff game between the Chargers and Patriots where Rivers played ton torn ligaments in both of his knees and still was balling? That's what I want in my QB. Not a guy that can't handle a calf strain. I understand these players are just as human as you or I, but they're also supposed to be the ultimate competitors and have that drive to win even if it means compromises. That's why they get paid the big bucks. I love Jimmy, but I have questions as to whether he's all in or not when it comes to being a competitor. If not might want to consider a career in modeling or acting.
-OP

And I probably should bite my tongue but like OP I find some of the things our fan base hates on as rather disturbing. It puts a pit in my stomach.

Mods, if you want to lock this thread or ban me, I understand. But I need to air this out there. This fanbase is a joke. I'm not even mad at the team or coaching staff after this loss. This was all on typical bad luck on our side, good luck on their side, and a boneheaded play by Cannon. Jimmy is who he is, showed that today and it's why we have been limited on offense.

But this fanbase pisses me off. First half when we were dominating them, we were louder than the 12's, but the moment things started not going our way the announcers started clowning on our lack of home field advantage. Unacceptable, but it is what is. What is most egregious are the onslaught of the most ignorant, idiotic and a just downright awful comments made here and elsewhere on social media, particularly when it comes to the takes on Shanahan. He didn't have a perfect game, but WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WHEN JIMMY IS WHO HE IS AND ON TOP OF THAT HE GETS INJURED. Then when Trey comes in, everyone all up and thinks he must light it up and score like he's Mahomes with little to no preparation for taking over. What do yall expect? After he settled down, he made some good plays out there.

This fanbase is freaking toxic. It's why other fanbases clown on us. They call us the "Forty Whiners", and it is well deserved. All whining and moaning and calling to fire people left and right, with total lack of perspective or nuance.

I'm sure as hell glad yall aren't the GM/owner. If you were, we'd be worse than the 0-16 Lions/Browns teams. FACT!

Faithful, my ass. yall need to do better

Obviously this doesn't speak for everyone but nothing you said is wrong.

Part of the stadium being an oven doesn't help things but our home advantage has been mediocre for a while and it was that way before Levis. When the team has to send reminders to the fans on when they should make noise you know it's bad.

Social media has made things so much worse too...have to wonder how things would've been even in our glory years if twitter was around then.

I do think overall fans (short for fanatic) tend to be overreactionary and lacking patience but this fanbase does seem to put a little extra care into being impatient.

Some of the people I follow on twitter who say they're diehard niner fans...honestly I'm wondering if they secretly hate the team. So much more excitement coming from some of them when the team loses or there are issues that pop up with the team. I never understood that. Why be a fan of a team if you're basically rooting for bad s**t to happen to them? Seems like a waste of fandom to me.
It's time to call out the FO for all the injuries.

yup, yet lets call out the fanbase
They suck. Fans super hyped like we're going the SB. Every year seems like a crap shoot. We all got ahead of ourselves like we're going to the SB as long as nobody gets injured. The sad thing is we haven't really improved the roster since the SB run. So how can they still be SB contenders if the haven't got better in two years? If you're not getting better in this league teams are passing you up. Healthy not healthy whatever. The roster hasn't improved. CB's are s**ttier. QB hasn't improved. Pass rush is older and more injured. Although Bosa is a beast he's not 100 back so it is what it is. RBs same but older and still hurt. Rookies are soft or suck. I can go on and on but we over valued this team. We put our coach on a pedestal. He's a great mind? There's dummies that bite off kneecaps doing just as good. The GM he always tries but it's not a good fit or whatever the excuse. Excuse that's what I'm tired of. Step it the f**k up!
This fan base is allowed to b***h, moan, complain or whine as much as they want. For years, some decades, have spent time and money on this team. If they think the product sucks they have every right to boo. As far as glass jimmy, I agree dude gets hurt all the time, but a healthy jimmy, is very capable to win a SB. We will only go as far as our QB, 24-8, I will take that. Shenny, I am a fan, I think for the most part puts our offense in a position to succeed with his play calls. But last two minutes of the half or the end of a close game, idk what happens, but he loses confidence or the moment is too much, I don't think so but, he s**ts the bed with his play calling. The FO, rarely targets players to fill glaring needs, and always goes after ACL recoveries, some good, GORE, some bad..too many to name. I can go on, but i think you get the point. So today, when Lance f**ks up, and he will, or shanny calls an off tackle run 3 plays in a row and we punt, I will whine, b***h and complain, but at the same time i will be rooting my ass off, as we make our SB run!!!!'
GO NINERS!!!
F**k cards
A lot of fan sites have unrealistic expectations. The East coast is particularly brutal on their teams. You get some people on here that probably aren't really fans blaming Jimmy G for every bruise other players get. He is a solid QB when healthy and rarely more than that. I think a few people on here just want some place to vent and typically don't back up their gripes with anything but irrational emotion. There are also some hardcore fans that know a ton. The last two Super Bowl losses have compounded the fans pain.

Watch New England in the future, because the 49ers were pretty much the Patriots for 15+ years in a much tougher conference. When they start struggling their fans will lose their minds. In San Francisco a QB losing the Super Bowl kills his future with the team.

Candlestick had a home field advantage and they should have stayed there if Levi's is the best they could come up with. Levi's Stadium is so poorly designed for fans. It isn't bad if you want to wander around, have a good meal, or grow some organic vegetables on the roof. SoFi makes me want to cry, because it is so much better than Levi's.
